Heat-Related Mortality in Japan after the 2011 Fukushima Disaster: An Analysis of Potential Influence of Reduced Electricity Consumption
Conclusions:
In the prefectures with the greatest reductions in electricity consumption, heat-related mortality decreased rather than increased following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Additional research is needed to determine whether this finding holds for other populations and regions, and to clarify its implications for policies to reduce the consequences of climate change on health. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP493

State Lawmakers Consider Taxing Soda, Sugary Drinks
BOSTON (CBS) –State lawmakers are considering a new tax on soda and other sugary drinks. The higher the sugar content, the more money you’ll pay.
The bill’s sponsor said the tax could help promote healthy alternatives while the opposition says it will hurt the economy.
A hearing at the State House on Tuesday brought out testimony on both sides.
Julieta Lopez held up packets with the amount of sugar in a large soda.
“This is how many packs of sugar are in that one bottle. This is ridiculous. Something needs to be done,” she told members of the Revenue Committee.

Does treadmill running performance, heart rate and breathing rate response during maximal graded exercise improve after volitional respiratory muscle training?
CONCLUSIONS: We hypothesize that these changes are probably due to VRMT induced learnt behaviour to control the breathing pattern that improves breathing economy, improvement in respiratory muscle aerobic capacity, attenuation of respiratory muscle metabo-reflex, increase in cardiac stroke volume and autonomic resetting towards parasympatho-dominance. Yogic Pranayama based VRMT can be used in sports conditioning programme of athletes to further improve their maximal exercise performance, and as part of rehabilitation training during return from injury.

Over 100 million Americans ― close to a third of the total population ― suffer from neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, migraines, epilepsy and spinal cord injury.

Senators Plead With Trump To Rescind Climate Executive Order
Ten Democratic senators from Western states sent President Donald Trump a letter Tuesday, urging him to drop his executive order rolling back policies enacted to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
