The roles and mechanisms of gut microbiome and metabolome in patients with cerebral infarction
As the most common type of stroke, ischemic stroke, also known as cerebral infarction (CI), with its high mortality and disability rate, has placed a huge burden on social economy and public health. Treatment methods for CI mainly include thrombectomy, thrombolysis, drug therapy, and so on. However, these treatments have certain timeliness and different side effects. In recent years, the gut-brain axis has become a hot topic, and its role in nervous system diseases has been confirmed by increasing evidences. The intestinal microbiota, as an important part of the gut-brain axis, has a non-negligible impact on the progressio...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16741: 1000 Days: The & ldquo;WeCare Generation & rdquo; Program & mdash; The Ultimate Model for Improving Human Mental Health and Economics: The Study Protocol
Discussion: An overall rate of return on investment (ROI) statistically significant 13.0% per annum with an associated benefit/cost ratio (BCR) of 6.3 is expected as the primary outcome of the “WeCare Generation” program. Our proposed model predicts a new medical paradigm aiming to empower new generations, with a strong return on economy and health.

Actual Telemedicine Needs of Japanese Patients with Neurological Disorders in the COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusion We can contribute to the management of the COVID-19 pandemic and the medical economy by promoting telemedicine, especially for young patients with headaches or epilepsy.PMID:36418105 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.9702-22

Inflation Phobia Hastens Recessions, Debt Crises
By Anis Chowdhury and Jomo Kwame SundaramSYDNEY and KUALA LUMPUR, Sep 27 2022 (IPS) Inflation phobia among central banks (CBs) is dragging economies into recession and debt crises. Their dogmatic beliefs prevent them from doing right. Instead, they take their cues from Washington: the US Fed, Treasury and Bretton Woods institutions (BWIs). Costly recessions Both BWIs – the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank – have recently raised the alarm about the likely dire consequences of the ensuing contractionary ‘race to the bottom’. But their dogmas stop them from being pragmatic. Hence, their policy analys...

Lost individual income due to severe health events: life-course perspective in the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke and heart attack but not cancer have exogenous deleterious effects on individual economy, independently of early-life factors. The effects accelerate by time. Negative income trend in control men shows that severe health events do not explain all decrease in income.PMID:36040214 | DOI:10.1093/eurpub/ckac110

O20 Thrombectomy for medium vessel occlusions: treatment effect of successful recanalization on long term functional outcome
ConclusionTICI 2b recanalization in MeVO increased probability of good outcome from 27% to 58%, TICI 3 recanalization did not further improve prognosis. P46 How much of the improvement in functional outcome after successful recanalization is explained by follow-up infarct volume reduction?
Conclusions57% of the improvement of functional outcome after successful recanalization is explained by follow-up infarct volume reduction. Results reflect established pathophysiological assumptions and confirm the value of infarct volume as imaging endpoint in clinical trials.ReferencesBoers AMM, Jansen IGH, Brown S, et al. P83 The relationship of functional outcome after mechanical thrombectomy and serum glucose is partially mediated by edema formation
ConclusionEdema formation explains 15% of the total adverse effects of high blood glucose levels. Major pathways might include other direct effects of high blood glucose, such as altered vessel wall and thrombus characteristics and higher thrombogenicity of the cerebral blood flow.ReferencesThorén, M., et al.
