An Initiative To Improve Door To Needle Time For Stroke Thrombolysis In Chicago (P7.129)
CONCLUSIONS:We identified several opportunities for improvement in DTN times at Chicago’s PSCs. Using a regional face-to-face educational program, we have initiated a plan to decrease DTN time in Chicago. Preliminary results suggest major improvements in short period of time.Study Supported by: GenentechDisclosure: Dr. Prabhakaran has received personal compensation for activities with American Heart Association. Return to Driving Following Stroke (P7.156)
CONCLUSIONS: The resumption of driving following stroke is usually a decision made without formal evaluation. Stroke survivors, including those who self-impose restrictions on their driving, may benefit from formal evaluation before returning to the driver’s seat.Disclosure: Dr. Ozark has nothing to disclose. Evaluation of Sexual Functions of Women with Stroke (P7.157)
CONCLUSIONS:Sexual functions are affected negatively in women with stroke and considered to be associated with increased disability, levels of independence and accompanied depression, and age. Therefore, women with stroke should also be evaluated as to sexual functions during the follow-up.Study Supported by:NoneDisclosure: Dr. Gumus has nothing to disclose. Meta-analysis in more than 17,900 cases of ischemic stroke reveals a novel association at 12q24.12
Conclusion: Our results show, for the first time, a genetic risk locus associated with ischemic stroke as a whole, rather than in a subtype-specific manner. This finding was not associated with intracerebral hemorrhage.

Growth hormone treatment for childhood short stature and risk of stroke in early adulthood
Conclusions: We report a strong relationship between hemorrhagic stroke and GH treatment in childhood for isolated growth hormone deficiency or childhood short stature. Patients treated with GH worldwide should be advised about this association and further studies should evaluate the potentially causal role of GH treatment in these findings.

Central poststroke pain in young ischemic stroke survivors in the Helsinki Young Stroke Registry
Conclusions: Late persistent CPSP was found in 5.9% of young stroke survivors and was associated with concomitant other pain, impaired quality of life, and moderate or severe stroke symptoms.

Association of cerebral microbleeds with mortality in stroke patients having atrial fibrillation
Conclusions: The presence and burden of CMBs were associated with increased mortality in stroke patients with NVAF. Patients with lobar CMBs were at increased risk of death due to hemorrhagic stroke. The diagnosis of CMBs is of value in predicting long-term prognosis in stroke patients with NVAF.

Increasing stroke incidence and prevalence of risk factors in a low-income Chinese population
Conclusions: The incidence of stroke in rural China increased rapidly, particularly among middle-aged adults, along with a concurrent increase in risk factor prevalence. These findings suggest that without controlling these risk factors, stroke incidence will continue to increase over future decades in China.

Long-term impact of stroke on family caregiver well-being: A population-based case-control study
Conclusions: Stroke caregiving is associated with persistent psychological distress, but life satisfaction, depression, and mental health QOL became comparable to noncaregivers by 3 years after stroke. Caregiver leisure satisfaction was chronically lower than in noncaregivers. Intervention for stroke caregivers should recognize both the strains faced by caregivers and their capacity for successful coping over time.

High Frequency of Short Paroxysms of Newly Detected Atrial Fibrillation after Stroke and TIA. Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (P1.054)
CONCLUSIONS: In the context of its currently unknown clinical and prognostic significance, the high frequency of PSAFs shorter than 30 seconds found in our study should be considered a strong enough reason for investigating its stroke risk in future studies. Temporal relationship between infective endocarditis and stroke
Conclusions: The association between IE and stroke persists for longer than previously reported. Most diagnoses of stroke and IE are made close together in time, but a period of heightened stroke risk becomes apparent several months before the diagnosis of IE and lasts for several months afterward.

Infection, vaccination, and childhood arterial ischemic stroke: Results of the VIPS study
Conclusions: Infection may act as a trigger for childhood AIS, while routine vaccinations appear protective. Hence, efforts to reduce the spread of common infections might help prevent stroke in children.

HIV, antiretroviral treatment, hypertension, and stroke in Malawian adults: A case-control study
Conclusions: In a population with high HIV prevalence, where stroke incidence is increasing, we have shown that HIV is an important risk factor. Early ART use in immunosuppressed patients poses an additional and potentially treatable stroke risk. Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome may be contributing to the disease mechanisms.
