Tranexamic acid as a novel adjunct in the management of vessel perforation complicating Endovascular Clot Retrieval
To assess the safety and utility of tranexamic acid (TXA) as an adjunct salvage therapy in iatrogenic vessel perforation complicating endovascular clot retrieval. Iatrogenic vessel perforation and extravasation are known and potentially fatal complications of endovascular clot retrieval (ECR). Various methods of establishing haemostasis post perforation have been reported. TXA is widely utilised intraoperatively to reduce bleeding in various surgical specialities. The use of TXA in endovascular procedures has not been previously described in the literature.

Hydration practices for hospitalized stroke patients at the university teaching hospital in zambia
Volume contracted state (VCS) at stroke onset may worsen stroke outcomes; therefore, providers may consider administering increased rehydration in these patients. Thus, we sought to understand current hydration practices after stroke at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia.

Establishing the need for a stroke unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in South Africa
Stroke in Africa is a growing and neglected crisis with strokes more than doubling in low to middle income countries in the last four decades. Despite this growing threat to healthcare systems, implementation of stroke models of care in hospitals is lacking with most stroke patients being managed as part of a general medical service. Stroke units have shown to decrease mortality, reduce length of stay in hospital (LOS), and improve patient outcomes.

Proximity to noise sources, socio-economic characteristics and diagnosis of high blood pressure among urban dwellers in ibadan, nigeria
High blood pressure (BP) is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and death. Studies have identified relationship between noise and high BP, although, limited literature exist on the effects of proximity to healthcare, pharmaceutical shops, bus stops, churches, and mosques on high BP. We investigated the relationship between proximity to noise sources, socioeconomic, demographic factors and diagnosed high BP in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Prevalence and risk factors of stroke recurrence in ghana and nigeria
Recurrent stroke prevention is vital for promoting optimal quality of life in stroke survivors. However, data on the burden and risk factors of recurrent stroke in sub-Saharan Africa is limited. We assessed the burden, risk factors and fatality from recurrent stroke in Ghana and Nigeria.

NOMINAL CONTRIBUTION OF LOW AND LOWER-MIDDLE- INCOME COUNTRIES (LMICs) IN MAJOR CLINICAL TRIALS ON SECONDARY STROKE PREVENTION: IMPLICATIONS FOR GUIDELINE DEVELOPMENT
Approximately 90% of all stroke deaths and disabilities occur in LMICs where implementation of secondary prevention is constrained. Clinicians in LMIC settings depend on stroke guidelines emanating from high-income countries developed largely using clinical trial data with minimal contribution of study participants from LMICs.

Acceptability of broad consent for the use and re-use of donated blood sample among west african stroke and stroke free individuals
there is increasing promotion of sample and data use beyond the primary research in genomic studies. Whilst this has the potential of promoting scientific discovery, participants ’ choice must be taken into consideration. The aim of our study was to understand the perspectives of stroke and stroke free populations on the acceptability of broad consent for secondary use of bio-samples for genomic research.

Determinants of stroke mortality among west africans: findings from the siren study
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in low-and-medium-income countries, but the pattern and determinants of stroke fatality are yet to be clearly understood among Africans. We assessed the determinants of stroke mortality among adults from 15 sites in Ghana and Nigeria in the Stroke Investigative Research and Educational Network (SIREN) study in West Africa.
