Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors as a risk factor for chronic subdural hematoma recurrence: A matter of debate
Chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is a common central nervous system condition. Recent reports indicate that cSDH affects long-term prognosis; however, its definitive risk factors remain unknown. An antihypertensive drug, renin –angiotensin–aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASi), can affect vascular permeability and cell proliferation processes, which may suppress the recurrence of cSDH. However, several studies have reported negative results to this effect. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate antihypertensive drugs, includ ing RAASi, as risk factors for recurrent cSDH.

Tele-rehabilitation on independence in activities of daily living after stroke: A Matched Case-Control Study
Rehabilitation is one of the most important aspects of care following a stroke, leading to better recovery and higher levels of independence.1 Previous studies have shown that 25% –74% of patients who had a stroke need assistance from caregivers for activities of daily living (ADLs), with quality of life (of both patients and caregivers) being heavily impacted due to this.2 The assessment of ADLs in adults who have had a stroke has recently been reported as a crucial moment for the entire field of rehabilitation3 and improving ADLs is always taken as an essential aim of rehabilitation.

Skin capillary amylin deposition resembles brain amylin vasculopathy in rats
Human amylin is a 37 amino-acid pancreatic peptide that forms neuro-toxic aggregates that deposit in the endothelium of brain capillaries of patients with diabetes, potentially contributing to cerebral small vessel ischemic injury. Pathogenic amylin also deposits in the capillary endothelium in other organs, including the skin. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that skin capillary amylin deposition correlates with cerebral small vessel amylin deposition, potentially providing a clinically useful marker of cerebral amylin deposition.

(VISIION-S): Viz.ai Implementation of Stroke augmented Intelligence and communications platform to improve Indicators and Outcomes for a comprehensive stroke center and Network – Sustainability
As Comprehensive Stroke Centers (CSCs) strive to improve neuro-intervention (NIR) times, process improvements are put in place to streamline workflows. Our prior publication (VISIION) demonstrated improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs). The purpose VISIION-S was to analyze whether those results were sustainable.

A systematic review and evaluation of post-stroke depression clinical practice guidelines
Post-stroke depression is a depressive mood disorder that follows a cerebrovascular accident and is a burden on stroke patients. Its management is included in clinical practice guidelines focused on stroke, and the recommended treatment is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in conjunction with psychotherapy. Clinical practice guidelines are recommendations used to standardize best medical practice, but there is no current evaluation of guidelines containing post stroke depression recommendations.

Predictors of hemodynamic instability during and persistent after carotid artery stenting
Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is an alternative to carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and is widely used to treat carotid artery stenosis. CAS and CEA have been demonstrated to be equally effective and safe in both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases of carotid artery stenosis.1-3 CAS-induced hemodynamic instability (HI), manifested as bradyarrhythmia and/or hypotension, has been reported to have an incidence ranging from 7% to 76%.4-7 HI induced by CAS may increase the risk of perioperative cardiac and neurological events.

Predictive utility of stress tests in the detection of asymptomatic coronary artery disease in atherosclerotic stroke patients
Whether and how atherosclerotic ischemic stroke patients should be investigated for asymptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD) is controversial. Our aim was to carry out a prospective observational study to determine the frequency and predictors of functionally significant coronary stenosis in these patients as well as the predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) during post-stroke follow-up.

Importance of microRNAs by mRNA-microRNA integration analysis in acute ischemic stroke patients
Acute ischemic stroke is common, and severe forms of the condition are becoming notably widespread due to the aging population.1 Patients with severe ischemic stroke are at high risk of mortality or disability due to neurological deficits, requiring long-term care; neurological deficits are typically associated with increased medical costs.1, 2 Recently, the treatment of severe hyperacute ischemic stroke has been established due to the introduction of recombinant tissue plasminogen activators3,4 and endovascular treatment,5 –7 but only selected population can benefit from these treatments.

Dysphagia after ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke: A propensity-matched 20-year analysis of the national inpatient sample
Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) is a common and debilitating complication of acute stroke associated with increased mortality and morbidity.1,2 Globally, 12.2 million strokes occur every year and 1 in 4 adults over the age of 25 will have a stroke within their lifetime.3 Of these, 87% of strokes are considered ischemic strokes (AIS) and 10% are hemorrhagic (ICH), both of which are associated with dysphagia as an adverse event.4 Recent studies have found that the prevalence of long-term PSD ranges from 42-50% and was an independent risk factor for prolonged hospital stay, institutionalization after discharge, poorer functional ...

Caregiver experiences of social support following stroke
The burgeoning public health concern of caregiving influences lives of many people.1 Informal caregivers are loved ones who are not paid for services they provide to the person needing assistance,2 most often family members or close friends. In the U.S. there are over 53 million informal caregivers.3 Caregivers can support the care recipient in different activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
