Cerebral foreign body granulomas after mechanical thrombectomy: Two case reports and a review of the literature
A foreign body granuloma after an endovascular intervention is a rare complication. Some cases of foreign body granulomas, especially after coil embolization, have been reported. However, only four cases of foreign body granulomas after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) have previously been reported. The current study reports two cases of post-MT foreign body granulomas, including a biopsy-proven case.

Blood oxygenation-level dependent cerebrovascular reactivity imaging as strategy to monitor CSF-hemoglobin toxicity
Cell-free hemoglobin in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF-Hb) may be one of the main drivers of secondary brain injury after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Haptoglobin scavenging of CSF-Hb has been shown to mitigate cerebrovascular disruption. Using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and blood oxygenation-level dependent cerebrovascular reactivity imaging (BOLD-CVR) the aim was to assess the acute toxic effect of CSF-Hb on cerebral blood flow and autoregulation, as well as to test the protective effects of haptoglobin.

Original Article: Increased Stroke Severity and Mortality in Patients with SARS-CoV-2 Infection: An Analysis from the N3C Database
Studies from early in the COVID-19 pandemic showed that patients with ischemic stroke and concurrent SARS-CoV-2 infection had increased stroke severity. We aimed to test the hypothesis that this association persisted throughout the first year of the pandemic and that a similar increase in stroke severity was present in patients with hemorrhagic stroke.

Anticoagulation under-utilization in atrial fibrillation patients is responsible for a large proportion of strokes requiring endovascular therapy
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is responsible for 30-50% of large strokes requiring endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). Anticoagulation (AC) underutilization is a common source of AF-related stroke. We compared antithrombotic medications among stroke patients with AF that did or did not undergo EVT to determine if AC underutilization disproportionately results in strokes requiring EVT, while quantifying the proportion of likely preventable thrombectomies.

Are there differences in perceptions, preferences and attitudes towards disclosure of genetic testing for Stroke? A qualitative study among stroke-free SIREN-SIBS genomics study participants
This study explored perceptions, preferences and attitudes towards disclosure of genetic testing results for stroke among stroke-free controls (and their family members) in the SIREN-SIBS Genomics Study, healthcare providers and policymakers.

Modification by an aspiration catheter for vessel stretching in thrombectomy using a stent retriever in vitro
Endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (EVT) using a stent retriever (SR) is the current first-line treatment for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion with a high revascularization rate, better safety profile, and better clinical outcomes.1 –4 However, the widespread increase in SR use has alerted clinicians about complications after EVT because> 10% of thrombectomy procedures are associated with perioperative complications5 including distal embolization to a new territory (4 –6%), de novo stenosis of the target vessel (3.4%), vessel perforation (0.6–4.9%), vasospasm (3.9–23%), dissection (0.6–...

Characterizing the individual course of health-related quality of life after subarachnoid haemorrhage: Latent growth mixture modelling
Survivors of aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) show heterogeneous profiles of health-related quality of life (HrQoL). The aim of this study was to characterize individual differences in the course of HrQoL following SAH using latent growth mixture modelling (LGMM).

High-intensity training in patients with lacunar stroke: A one-year follow-up
Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for stroke. It is a challenge for patients to initiate and adhere to regular exercise post-stroke. Early initiation of home-based high-intensity interval training (HIIT) may engage patients in physical activity, improve cardiorespiratory fitness, and reduce risk of recurrent stroke.
