Lyme neuroborreliosis: Progressive cerebral vasculitis responsive to cyclophosphamide. A case report and review of the literature
Less than 1 % of patients with Lyme Neuroborreliosis (LNB) present with a cerebrovascular event. Ischaemic strokes occur more commonly than parenchymal or subarachnoid haemorrhages. If cerebral vasculitis due to LNB is suspected, antibiotic treatment should be started immediately, which will normally lead to remission. Very rarely progression and recurrent strokes are observed despite sufficient antibiotic therapy, even if steroids are added. Currently there are no guidelines on the adequate treatment of cerebral vasculitis due to LNB which is not responsive to antibiotics and steroids, but in very few reported cases cyclo...

Autonomic function may mediate the neuroprotection of remote ischemic postconditioning in stroke: A randomized controlled trial
Acute ischemic stroke(AIS) is one of the leading causes of death and long-lasting disability on a global level, with an increased global burden in the past two decades.1,2 Early restoration of blood flow is currently recognized as the most effective therapy for AIS. However, rapid reperfusion after a certain period of ischemia could paradoxically induce ischemia-perfusion injury (IRI), which can promote neurovascular inflammation by inducing the generation of cytokines, and thus aggravate stroke severity and adverse neurological outcomes.

A novel report of Cys1298Gly mutation in exon 24 of NOTCH3 gene in a Chinese family with CADASIL
Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most common monogenic hereditary small cerebral vessel disease, which is caused by mutation of the neurogenic locus notch homolog protein 3 gene (NOTCH3). The exon 24 encodes EGF-like repeats, variants on this exon are rare. Here, we report a novel heterozygous variant c.3892 T>G (p. Cys1298Gly) on exon 24 of NOTCH3 gene in a 57-year-old Chinese woman.

Cerebral edema, a complication of ischemic stroke, can cause severe brain swelling, increased intracranial pressure, neurologic deterioration, and secondary ischemia and may be associated with an increased mortality rate.1 –6 Thus, a detailed understanding of the mechanisms underlying cerebral edema formation and a longitudinal investigation of cerebral edema development in association with neurofluids are important for a more accurate prognosis and advances in treatment strategies targeting cerebral edema.

Association of serum uric acid with risk of stroke in US adults: A cross-sectional study from NHANES 1999 –2020
Stroke is the second-most global death cause, only after ischemic heart disease, and third-most contributor to disability1, making it a major therapeutic challenge. More than 100 million individuals worldwide experience stroke every year, of which 795,000 cases are in the United States.2 Therefore, improved preventive strategies are needed; particularly, strategies targeting the modifiable risk factors of stroke, such as hypertension, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia, may help prevent more than approximately 90% of stroke cases.
