Prognosis associated with asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOur results indicate that compared with patients without ICH, those who developed aICH during the acute stage of ischemic stroke had an increasing risk of worse outcome, especially in patients with endovascular therapy.

Imaging-based outcome prediction in posterior circulation stroke
ConclusionMachine learning-based evaluation of pc-ASPECTS regions predicts functional outcome of pc-stroke patients with higher accuracy than conventional assessments. This could optimize triage for additional diagnostics and allocation of best possible medical care and might allow required arrangements of the social environment at an early point of time.

Delirium on stroke units: a prospective, multicentric quality-improvement project
ConclusionsImplementation of delirium-management on SU is feasible and can be delivered to most patients, but with limited effects. Nursing interventions as first choice could be delivered to the majority of patients, and only the half required pharmacological treatments. Delirium-management may lead to reduced severity of POD but had only partial effects on duration of POD or length of stay. POD hampers rehabilitation, especially in patients with more severe stroke.RegistryDRKS, DRKS00021436. Registered 04/17/2020,www.drks.de/DRKS00021436.

Epileptic seizures in the emergency room: clinical and electroencephalographic findings associated with brain perfusion patterns on computed tomography
ConclusionsIn acute settings, detection by visual analysis of focal cerebral cortical hyperperfusion on pCT in patients with epileptic seizures, especially if accompanied by the highly specific feature of thalamic hyperperfusion, is suggestive of a diagnosis of SE and requires clinical and EEG confirmation. The absence of focal hyperperfusion makes a diagnosis of SE unlikely.

Mechanical thrombectomy does not increase the risk of acute symptomatic seizures in patients with an ischaemic stroke: a propensity score matching study
ConclusionThere was no association between MT or ST and an increased risk of acute symptomatic seizures in patients with an acute ischaemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion who were treated at a primary stroke centre.

Recurrent intracerebral hemorrhage in patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy: a propensity-matched case –control study
The objective of our study was to compare the readmission rates for recurrent ICH, SAH, and AIS among patients admitted for ICH with and without CAA.MethodsUsing the National Readmissions Database 2016 –2018 we identified patients admitted for ICH with and without a concomitant diagnosis of CAA. Primary outcome of the study was readmission due to ICH. Secondary outcomes included readmissions due to AIS and SAH. Survival analysis was performed, and Kaplan–Meier curves were created to assess for readmissions.ResultsThe study consisted of 194,290 patients with ICH, 8247 with CAA and 186,043 without CAA as a concomitant di...

Premorbid frailty predicts short- and long-term outcomes of reperfusion treatment in acute stroke
DiscussionFrailty is an important predictor of efficacy of acute treatment of stroke beyond classical predictors of stroke outcomes. Larger longitudinal studies are, thus, warranted to evaluate the risk –benefit of reperfusion treatment in the growing elderly frail population.

Myocardial infarction, stroke and cardiovascular mortality among migraine patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionMigraine, especially migraine with aura, is associated with myocardial infarction and stroke. Migraine with aura increases the risk of overall cardiovascular mortality.

Intraluminal carotid thrombosis and acute ischemic stroke associated with COVID-19
AbstractCOVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) caused by SARS-CoV-2 has a diverse constellation of neurological manifestations that include encephalopathy, stroke, Guillain –Barré syndrome, myelitis, and encephalitis. Intraluminal carotid thrombi (ILT) are infrequent lesions seen in only 1.6% of patients with acute ischemic stroke. Underlying atherosclerosis is the most common lesion associated with ILT formation. However, with COVID-19, we have encountered ILT in p atients without significant atherosclerotic disease. The endothelial inflammation and hypercoagulable state associated with COVID-19 pose a risk of arterial an...

Acute symptomatic seizures in the emergency room: predictors and characteristics
ConclusionsIn one quarter of patients presenting to the ER after an epileptic fit, the seizure had an acute symptomatic genesis. The independently associated variables may help to early identify ASS and initiate management of the underlying condition.

Safety and outcomes of endovascular treatment in patients with very severe acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsIn patients with very severe neurological deficit, EVT was safe and successful recanalization was strongly associated with better functional outcome at 90  days.

Hospital admissions of acute cerebrovascular diseases during and after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic: a state-wide experience from Austria
AbstractWe investigated hospital admission rates for the entire spectrum of acute cerebrovascular diseases and of recanalization treatments for ischaemic stroke (IS) in the Austrian federal state of Styria during and also after the first coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) wave. We retrospectively identified all patients with transient ischaemic attack (TIA), IS and non-traumatic intracranial haemorrhage (ICH; including intracerebral, subdural and subarachnoid bleeding types) admitted to one of the 11 public hospitals in Styria (covering  >  95% of inhospital cerebrovascular events in this region). Information was e...

Thrombectomy with or without thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOutcomes were similar for d-MT and IVT  + MT, with d-MT having a lower risk of any ICH. We need to focus on precision medicine in the future.RegistrationURL:http://inplasy.com; Unique identifier: INPLASY202130094.

Early anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation-related acute ischaemic stroke: efficacy and safety profile
ConclusionsEarly anticoagulation was associated with lower ischaemic recurrence and better functional outcome at 3 months. Additional studies are needed to better clarify its haemorrhagic risk.
