The European Stroke Organisation Guidelines: a standard operating procedure
In 2008, the recently founded European Stroke Organisation published its guidelines for the management of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack. This highly cited document was translated in several languages and was updated in 2009. Since then, the European Stroke Organisation has published guidelines for the management of intracranial aneurysms and subarachnoidal hemorrhage, for the establishment of stroke units and stroke centers, and recently for the management of intracerebral hemorrhage. In recent years, the methodology for the development of guidelines has evolved significantly. To keep pace with this progres...

Does Comprehensive Stroke Center Recommended Nurse Training Result in Earlier In-Hospital Stroke Recognition? (P2.324)
Conclusions:There was a delay in initiation of stroke alert in areas where staff did not receive extra training per CSC guidelines, though this did not reach significance due difference in sample size. Expanding the CSC training to all staff would benefit hospital-wide stroke alerts. More data is needed to confirm this.Disclosure: Dr. Gregath has nothing to disclose. Acute Stroke Code Accuracy in the Inpatient Versus Emergency Department (ED) Setting (S16.003)
Conclusion FP were more common for inpatient versus ED codes AMS or SS were infrequently associated with stroke diagnosis. Better education for non-neuroscience hospital providers, regarding acute stroke criteria, is needed.Disclosure: Dr. Schneck has received research support from NIH (POINT, COSS, ARUBA, ALIAS, Lundbeck (DIAS4), TIMI-50 Consortium, and Local PI Multicenter Clincial trials. Patient behaviour at the time of stroke onset: a cross-sectional survey of patient response to stroke symptoms
Conclusions This study provides insights into patient response when a stroke occurs, with the presence and action of others highlighted as critical in fast response to stroke symptoms. Knowledge of stroke warning signs and risk factors was low among stroke survivors. Findings highlight the complexity of changing help-seeking behaviour during stroke onset, and provide directions for public education efforts to reduce prehospital delay.

Walk-in versus ems-prenotified stroke codes-time targets in a comprehensive stroke center (p1.271)
Conclusions:Walk-in strokes had significant delay in LKW to arrival, highlighting the need for community education in recognizing symptoms of stroke. People with larger strokes(higher NIHSS) tend to present via EMS. Significant delays in door to CT and stroke-code in walk-in strokes, demonstrates need for early stroke symptom recognition in the ER. EMS education and pre-notification improves likelihood of tPA administration.Disclosure: Dr. Kaur has nothing to disclose. Dr. Gudlavalleti has nothing to disclose. Comparisons of Stroke Knowledge and Health Behaviors in Patients With Hypertensive Stroke at Different Recurrence Risk Strata: The Comprehensive Reminder System Based on the Health Belief Model Study
Conclusions Most patients incorrectly estimated their risk of stroke recurrence. Communicating with patients about their future risk of recurrent stroke may help improve their stroke knowledge and health behaviors. Implementation of the Comprehensive Reminder System based on the Health Belief Model focusing on risk education aimed at prevention of stroke recurrence is warranted in China.

Contrasting impact of fast-test public education on behaviour after tia and minor stroke versus major stroke: a population-based study
Conclusion The U.K. FAST campaign appears to have improved recognition and behaviour after major stroke, but symptom recognition remains poor in TIA and minor stroke and may have been adversely affected. Public education campaigns should consider potential unintended consequences of focussing only on FAST-test symptoms and on major stroke.

Stroke Awareness Among Community Residents in Chicago (P7.135)
CONCLUSIONS:Despite significant efforts made to increase public awareness about stroke, moderate deficits still exist. Factors Related to Knowledge of Stroke Symptoms and Risk Factors in a Norwegian Stroke Population
Conclusions: Knowledge of stroke symptoms and risk factors in patients with acute cerebrovascular disease seems to be insufficient. Further educational efforts are needed, as better knowledge may improve prevention of stroke and increase the number of patients who can receive thrombolysis.
