Participation in the chronic phase of stroke.
Conclusions: Most participants experienced participation problems, despite relatively good physical recovery. In addition to physical and cognitive factors, subjective complaints of persons with stroke should be addressed in the rehabilitation program. PMID: 23340071 [PubMed - in process]

Cross-education of strength has a positive impact on post-stroke rehabilitation: a systematic literature review.
CONCLUSION: Based on best evidence synthesis guidelines the combination of the results included in this review suggest at least a moderate level of evidence for the application of cross-education of strength in stroke rehabilitation. Following this review it is recommended that additional high quality randomized controlled trials are conducted to further support the findings. PMID: 26907193 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Employment after stroke: report of a state of the science symposium.
Abstract For many stroke survivors, returning to work becomes an important emotional and functional milestone in signaling recovery. It can also provide needed financial support and reduce the burden placed on society in the form of government assistance. The complex nature of the return-to-work process involves many factors that may support or interfere with reintegration into the workforce. For the purpose of examining this important topic more closely, the Rehabilitation Research & Training Center on Enhancing the Functional and Employment Outcomes of Individuals Who Experience a Stroke held a State of the ...

Methods of Implementation of Evidence-Based Stroke Care in Europe: European Implementation Score Collaboration Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We developed a novel method to assess different domains of implementation in stroke care. Clear variations were observed among European countries. The new tool may be used elsewhere for future contributions.

A qualitative study on user acceptance of a home-based stroke telerehabilitation system.
Conclusion: Telerehabilitation systems can be used as an efficient and user-friendly tool to deliver home-based stroke rehabilitation that enhance patients' physical recovery and mental and social-emotional wellbeing. Such systems need to be designed to offer engaging experience, display of recovery progress, and flexibility of schedule and location, with consideration of facilitating and social factors. Education Level and Inequalities in Stroke Reperfusion Therapy: Observations in the Swedish Stroke Register Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We demonstrated a social stratification in reperfusion, partly explained by patient characteristics and the local hospital specialization level. Further studies should address treatment delays, stroke knowledge, and means to improve reperfusion implementation in less specialized hospitals.

A Multicomponent Behavioral Intervention to Reduce Stroke Risk Factor Behaviors: The Stroke Health and Risk Education Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— This multicomponent behavioral intervention targeting stroke risk factors in predominantly Hispanics/Latinos was effective in increasing fruit and vegetable intake, reaching its primary end point. The intervention also seemed to lower sodium intake. Church-based health promotions can be successful in primary stroke prevention efforts. Shape of the Central Sulcus and Disability After Subcortical Stroke: A Motor Reserve Hypothesis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The severity of disability in patients with a positive history of small subcortical ischemic stroke caused by a severe cerebral small vessel disease is related to the shape of the central sulcus, independently of the main determinants of disability. These results support the concept of a motor reserve that could modulate the clinical severity in patients with a positive history of small subcortical ischemic stroke.
