A prospective observational study of preoperative natriuretic peptide testing in adult non-cardiac surgical patients in hospitals in Western Cape Province, South Africa
CONCLUSIONS: We strongly recommend that non-cardiac surgical patients aged ≥45 years undergoing intermediate- or high-risk non-cardiac surgery with a history of coronary artery disease/peripheral vascular disease, congestive cardiac failure, diabetes mellitus or elevated creatinine have preoperative NP testing as part of risk stratification.PMID:33944767 | DOI:10.7196/SAMJ.2021.v111i4.15226

Role Of Glp-1 Analogs In The Management Of Diabetes And Its Secondary Complication
Mini Rev Med Chem. 2021 Apr 21. doi: 10.2174/1389557521666210422114909. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe cardiovascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) include myocardial infarction, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease and, stroke and retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy are microvascular complications. While the newer therapies like glitazones or even dipeptidyl-peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitors increase the risk of therapy, the Glucagon Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1RAs), were reported as suitable alternates. The GLP-1RAs reduce the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), have anti...

An Analysis of the Potential Relationship of Triglyceride Glucose and Body Mass Index With Stroke Prognosis
Conclusion: Overweight/obese patients with ischemic stroke have better survival than patients with low/normal weight. The association of BMI and stroke outcome is not changed by TYG index.

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 3433: The Combined Effect of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation and Insulin Therapy on Glycated Hemoglobin Concentrations, Lipid Profiles and Hemodynamic Parameters in Patients with Type-2-Diabetes and Hemiplegia Related to Ischemic Stroke: A Pilot Study
Cezary Kucio Type-2-diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a global problem of medical, social and economic consequences. Physical activity is a vital therapy in patients with T2DM, but some of them cannot exercise for various reasons. The purpose of our pilot study was to determine whether a combination of neuromuscular electrostimulation (NMES) and insulin therapy could improve the management of T2DM patients with hemiplegia caused by an ischemic stroke. Fifteen immobile patients with T2DM on insulin therapy were enrolled in the study. NMES was applied to their lower limbs for 60 min, 5 days a week, over a period of 12 weeks. T...

Elevated triglyceride-glucose index predicts risk of incident ischaemic stroke: The Rural Chinese Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Elevated TyG index is an independent predictor of ischaemic stroke in the general population, and insulin resistance may be positively associated with future stroke risk.PMID:33722769 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabet.2021.101246
