Palliative Care for Hospitalized Patients With Stroke Clinical Sciences
This study explores patterns of palliative care utilization and death in hospitalized patients with stroke across the United States.Methods—Using the 2010 to 2012 nationwide inpatient sample databases, we included all patients discharged with stroke identified by International Classification of Diseases-Ninth Revision codes. Strokes were subclassified as ischemic, intracerebral, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Conclusions—The achievement of complete revascularization from a single Solitaire thrombectomy device pass (FPE) is associated with significantly higher rates of good clinical outcome. The FPE is more frequently associated with the use of balloon guide catheters and less likely to be achieved with internal carotid artery terminus occlusion.

Influence of a Comorbid Diagnosis of Seizure on 30-Day Readmission Rates Following Hospitalization for an Index Stroke
Objective: To examine the association of a comorbid seizure diagnosis with early hospital readmission rates following an index hospitalization for stroke in the United States. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the 2014 National Readmission Database. The study population included adult patients (age>18 years old) with stroke, identified using the International Classification of Disease Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codes 433.X1, 434.X1, and 436 for ischemic stroke as well as 430, 431, 432.0, 432.1, and 432.9 for hemorrhagic stroke.

Hospital Discharge and Readmissions Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic for California Acute Stroke Inpatients
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States, with approximately 795,000 new strokes occurring annually, including acute ischemic stroke (AIS), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).1 The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted all levels of care for stroke patients, such as delays in initial presentation, reduction in acute therapies, limitations of in-patient resources, delays or lack of initiation of secondary stroke prevention therapy, and limitations in rehabilitation services after hospital discharge.

Conclusions This is the first study in the US to report real-world outcomes sourced by retrospective database analysis among patients with AIS undergoing MT using the EmboTrap device. Further research is needed to better understand performance of the EmboTrap device in real-world settings.

Age- and Sex-Associated Impacts of Body Mass Index on Stroke Type Risk: A 27-Year Prospective Cohort Study in a Low-Income Population in China
Conclusions Being overweight increased the risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes; obesity was only associated with an increased risk of IS. Additionally, the positive association between BMI and stroke risk was only observed in participants aged <65 years and the associations differed between men and women. Clinical Improvement Following Stroke Promptly Reverses Post-stroke Cellular Immune Alterations
Conclusions: SIIA are detectable on admission of acute stroke patients. While it was assumed that post-stroke immunosuppression is rapidly reversed with improvement this is the first data set that shows that improvement actually is associated with a rapid reversal of SIIA demonstrating that SIIA require a constant signal to persist. Accuracy of Prehospital Identification of Stroke in a Large Stroke Belt Municipality.
CONCLUSIONS: EMD and EMS personnel in a large city in the Southeastern United States, with high stroke prevalence, had a relatively high sensitivity in identifying acute stroke patients. Short-term exposure to air pollution and incidence of stroke in the Women's Health Initiative.
CONCLUSIONS: In this large cohort of post-menopausal US women, daily NO2 and NOx were associated with higher risk of hemorrhagic stroke, but ambient levels of four other air pollutants were not associated with higher risk of total stroke, ischemic stroke, or ischemic stroke subtypes.
