A Smartphone-Delivered Program (Anathema) to Promote the Sexual Health of Older Adults, Colorectal Cancer Survivors, and Stroke Survivors: Protocol for a Feasibility Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: The study results will inform the refinement and scale-up of Anathema. Anathema's wider-scale implementation can potentially promote the sexual health of largely neglected user groups such as older adults, colorectal cancer survivors, and stroke survivors.INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID): DERR1-10.2196/46734.PMID:37368469 | DOI:10.2196/46734

Translation and validation of the stroke self-efficacy questionnaire to a Portuguese version in stroke survivors.
Conclusion: SSEQ-B is a valid, reliable, and stable patient-reported outcome. It has concurrent validity with self-reported measures of depression, functional independence and a multi-dimensional measure of health status in chronic stroke survivors in Brazil. Diagnosing dementia in lower educated older persons: validation of a Brazilian Portuguese version of the Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS).
CONCLUSIONS: The RUDAS-BR is as accurate as the MMSE in screening for dementia. RUDAS-BR scores were not influenced by education. The RUDAS-BR may improve the cognitive assessment of older persons who are illiterate or of lower educational attainment. PMID: 29451587 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The population impact of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases in relation to other non-communicable disorders: comparing two estimation approaches
AbstractThe aim of this study was to quantify the population impact of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) with other non-communicable diseases (NCDs), using two complementary strategies: standard multivariate models based on global burden of disease (GBD)-defined groups vs. empirical mutually exclusive patterns of NCDs. We used cross-sectional data from the Portuguese Fourth National Health Survey (n = 23,752). Six GBD-defined groups were included: RMDs, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes or renal failure, and stroke or myocardial infarction. The empirical approach ...

The water extract of tutsan (Hypericum androsaemum L.) red berries exerts antidepressive-like effects and in vivo antioxidant activity in a mouse model of post-stroke depression.
In this study, we assessed the beneficial role of the water extract of H. androsaemum red berries (WE) in an experimental animal model of post-stroke depression. WE was obtained by decoction of H. androsaemum red berries, and its content of ten bioactive compounds was determined through HPLC-DAD analysis. Behavioral tests were carried out using a mouse model of post stroke depression to examine the antidepressive-like activity of WE at two doses (15 and 30 mg/kg bw). In addition, the in vivo antioxidant activity in the mouse brain was evaluated by measuring CAT, GSH, and SOD activity and TBARS levels. WE contained signif...
