Acute effects of mixed circuit training on hemodynamic and cardiac autonomic control in chronic hemiparetic stroke patients: A randomized controlled crossover trial
Conclusion: A single bout of MCT elicited prolonged PEH in chronic hemiparetic stroke patients. This occurred concurrently with increased sympathovagal balance and lowered SVR, suggesting vasodilation capacity is a major determinant of PEH in these patients. This clinical trial was registered in the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry (RBR-5dn5zd), available at https://ensaiosclinicos.gov.br/rg/RBR-5dn5zd.Clinical Trial Registration:https://ensaiosclinicos.gov.br/rg/RBR-5dn5zd, identifier RBR-5dn5zd

Role of aerobic physical training on cardiac autonomic and morphophysiological dysfunction in hypertensive rats subjected to ovarian hormone deprivation
Braz J Med Biol Res. 2022 May 16;55:e11916. doi: 10.1590/1414-431X2022e11916. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTHere we investigated the effects of physical training on cardiovascular autonomic control and cardiac morphofunctional parameters in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) subjected to ovarian hormone deprivation. Forty-eight 10-week-old SHRs were divided into two groups: ovariectomized (OVX, n=24) and sham (SHAM, n=24). Half of each group (n=12) was trained by swimming for 12 weeks (OVX-T and SHAM-T). Cardiac morphology and functionality were assessed using echocardiography, and autonomic parameters were assessed using d...

Hospital Length of Stay and 30-Day Mortality Prediction in Stroke: A Machine Learning Analysis of 17,000 ICU Admissions in Brazil
ConclusionsHospital length of stay and 30-day mortality of patients admitted to the ICU with stroke were accurately predicted through machine learning methods, even in the absence of stroke-specific data, such as the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score or neuroimaging findings. The proposed methods using general intensive care databases may be used for resource use allocation planning and performance assessment of ICUs treating stroke. More detailed acute neurological and management data, as well as long-term functional outcomes, may improve the accuracy and applicability of future machine-learning-based prediction algorithms.

Does dual task merged in a mixed physical exercise protocol impact the mobility under dual task conditions in mild impaired stroke survivors? A feasibility, safety, randomized, and controlled pilot trial
CONCLUSION: The results indicate that mixed physical exercise under DT is feasible and safe for mild-impaired stroke survivors. Stroke survivors demonstrate more significant improvement in the mobility performance under DT when submitted to a DT mixed physical exercise protocol than the standard physical exercise intervention.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Brazilian clinical trials registry (RBR-4mvzz6); WHO trial record (U1111-1198-7173)IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONDT training can be prescribed by using clear and precise parameters for stroke survivors.Physical Exercise without DT requirements did not improve mobility performing a...

Hands-only CPR training for children, adolescents and adults at the school community: The kids save lives Brazil experience
The education of bystanders to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is crucial to improve the victim's survival and quality of life. KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL program has trained children, adolescents, and adults of school communities to identify signals and symptoms as to take first actions in acute stroke, choking, and sudden cardiac arrest. The present longitudinal study assessed the success rate between a 45-min training using low-fidelity/low-cost manikins (1630 subjects, mean age 16 years, 38% male) and a 2-h training using high-fidelity manikins (347 subjects, mean age 27 years, 32% male) on the development of t...

Hypothermia treatment reduced cyclin-dependent kinase 5-mediated inflammation in ischemic stroke and improved outcomes in ischemic stroke patients
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has spread exponentially worldwide. In Brazil, the number of infected people diagnosed has been increasing and, as in other countries, it has been associated with a high risk of contamination in healthcare teams. For healthcare professionals, the full use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, such as wearing surgical or filtering facepiece class 2 (FFP2) masks, waterproof aprons, gloves, and goggles, in addition to training in care processes. A reduction in the number of face-to-face visits an...

Change in the profile of causes of death after investigation of hospital deaths in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 2017
Conclusion: The investigation on reported hospital deaths is one of the strategies to improve mortality statistics, reducing the occurrence of GC among reported deaths and changing the mortality profile in these facilities. The importance of continuous physician training in cause-of-death certification is emphasized.

Improving the usefulness of mortality data: reclassification of ill-defined causes based on medical records and home interviews in Brazil
Conclusion: High proportions of IDCD reassigned to more informative causes after review indicate the success of this approach to correct misclassification in the SIM, an initiative that should be maintained. Training physicians on death certification along with better quality of medical care and access to health services would lead to further improvement.RESUMO Introdu ção: As proporções de causas de morte mal definidas (CMD) foram elevadas no Brasil em 2000. Objetivo: Analisar causas específicas para óbitos originalmente como CMD no Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade (SIM), após investigação implementada n...

Profile of deaths from unspecified stroke after investigation of garbage codes in 60 cities in Brazil, 2017
Conclusion: The investigations allowed the identification of subgroups of deaths due to stroke. In addition to the research, however, it is important to conduct physician training in the adequate filling in of the DC, in order to improve estimates of specific stroke mortality, and to enable appropriate targeting of health actions and services.

Let Plants be Thy Medicine – You Are What You Eat
Credit: Busani Bafana/IPSBy Esther Ngumbi and Ifeanyi NsoforILLINOIS, United States / ABUJA, Oct 16 2019 (IPS) United Nations World Food Day is celebrated around the world on October 16 under the theme: “Our Actions ARE Our Future. Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger World”. This theme is timely, especially, because across Africa and around the world, there has been a gradual rise in malnutrition and diet-related non communicable diseases, as highlighted in The Lancet study and a United Nations Report published earlier this year. While 45 percent of deaths in children are from nutrition-related causes, mainly malnu...

KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL: A successful pilot program to implement CPR at primary and high schools in Brazil resulting in a state law for a training CPR week
Brazil is the biggest country in South America, with more than 207 million of inhabitants. From them, 15% of the population is in primary and high schools. The worldwide KIDS SAVE LIVES campaign1 –3 was first implemented in Brazil as KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL by a group of associate professors, researchers and graduate students from multidisciplinary areas of University of São Paulo. KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL program sought to train school community as all citizens can save a life4 to know, to identify and to take effective first actions in cardiac arrest, acute stroke and choke.

More Research Is Needed on Lifestyle Behaviors That Influence Progression of Parkinson's Disease
This article highlights some of these challenges in the design of lifestyle studies in PD, and suggests a more coordinated international effort is required, including ongoing longitudinal observational studies. In combination with pharmaceutical treatments, healthy lifestyle behaviors may slow the progression of PD, empower patients, and reduce disease burden. For optimal care of people with PD, it is important to close this gap in current knowledge and discover whether such associations exist. Introduction Parkinson's disease (PD) is an age-related complex progressive neurodegenerative disorder, with key p...
