Thrombus-associated microbiota in acute ischemic stroke patients
CONCLUSION: In this small study, we demonstrate proof of concept and technical feasibility for amplicon-based metagenomic sequencing of arterial thrombi and briefly discuss preliminary findings, challenges, and near-term translational opportunities for thrombus genomics.PMID:35855159 | PMC:PMC9282817 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_104_2022

Endovascular treatment for cerebral venous thrombosis: current status, challenges, and opportunities
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) mostly affects young people. So far, endovascular treatment (EVT) has not been shown to be beneficial in CVT, partially because venous EVT tools are not yet fully optimized, and therefore EVT is only used as a rescue treatment in rare cases. Identifying a subgroup of CVT patients that could benefit from EVT is challenging, given the milder course of disease compared with acute ischemic stroke, the paucity of data on prognostic factors (both in the clinical and imaging domain), and the lack of consensus on what constitutes 'technical success' in CVT EVT. In this review, we discuss the major ...

Stroke outcome of early antiplatelet in post-thrombolysis haemorrhagic infarction
Conclusions
Antiplatelet therapy can be safely used between 24 and 48 hours when HI occurs after IVT, and such therapy is associated with reduced risk of END and improved neurological outcome in patients who had an AIS.

IVIg-exposure and thromboembolic event risk: findings from the UK Biobank
Background
Arterial and venous thromboembolic events (TEEs) have been associated with intravenous Ig use, but the risk has been poorly quantified. We aimed to calculate the risk of TEEs associated with exposure to intravenous Ig.
Methods
We included participants from UK Biobank recruited over 3 years, data extracted September 2020.
The study endpoints were incidence of myocardial infarction, other acute ischaemic heart disease, stroke, pulmonary embolism and other venous embolism and thrombosis.
Predictors included known TEE risk factors: age, sex, hypertension, smoking status, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolae...

Thrombectomy for secondary distal, medium vessel occlusions of the posterior circulation: seeking complete reperfusion
Conclusion
Thrombectomy for secondary posterior circulation DMVO seems to be safe and technically feasible. Even though thrombi that have migrated preprocedurally may be easier to retract, successful reperfusion can be achieved in the majority of patients with secondary DMVO of the P2 and P3 segment.

103 High rates of venous and arterial thrombotic events in POEMS patients
Conclusion
Arterial and venous thromboses are more common in POEMS syndrome than previously reported and appear associated with disease pathology and activity. We propose a management strategy for appropriate thromboprophylaxis in POEMS patients throughout the course of disease.

Effectiveness of the Digging through Thrombus Technique by Using an Aspiration Catheter and Stent Retriever for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Neurol Med Chir (Tokyo). 2022 May 25. doi: 10.2176/jns-nmc.2021-0335. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare cause of stroke, and the first-line treatment is systemic anticoagulation. Patients unresponsive to standard therapy for CVT present with rapid neurological deterioration and require endovascular treatment. We encountered two patients with severe CVT who underwent endovascular treatment. In our cases, the thrombus was too hard and extensive to pass through using currently existing techniques. We performed the "digging through thrombus technique" using an aspiration catheter and sten...
