Fluorescent Molecular Peroxidation Products: A Prognostic Biomarker of Early Neurologic Deterioration After Thrombolysis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— FMPPs might be a valuable biomarker of poor early neurological outcome and be related to the appearance of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage in tissue plasminogen activator–treated patients, one of the most feared neurological complications after thrombolytic treatment of acute ischemic stroke.

Comparison of Clinical Risk Stratification for Predicting Stroke and Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— A direct comparison of 9 risk schemes reveals no profound differences in risk stratification accuracy for high-risk patients. Accurate prediction of low-risk patients is perhaps more valuable in determining those unlikely to benefit from oral anticoagulation therapy. Among our cohort, CHA2DS2-VASc performed best in this purpose.

Conclusions— Frequency of thrombolytic treatment seems to follow the same circadian pattern of stroke incidence, whereas its correspondence to a weekly pattern is less clear. Time of treatment is an independent predictor of outcome.

Loss of Mural Cells Leads to Wall Degeneration, Aneurysm Growth, and Eventual Rupture in a Rat Aneurysm Model Basic Sciences
Conclusions— In the presented experimental setting, complete loss of mural cells acts as a driving force for aneurysm growth and rupture. The findings suggest that aneurysms missing mural cells are incapable to organize a luminal thrombus, leading to recanalization, increased inflammatory reaction, severe wall degeneration, and eventual rupture.

THRIVE Score Predicts Ischemic Stroke Outcomes and Thrombolytic Hemorrhage Risk in VISTA Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The THRIVE score is a simple-to-use tool to predict clinical outcome, mortality, and risk of hemorrhage after thrombolysis in patients with ischemic stroke. Despite its simplicity, the THRIVE score performs better than several other outcome prediction tools. A free Web calculator for the THRIVE score is available at http://www.thrivescore.org.

Clot Length Distribution and Predictors in Anterior Circulation Stroke: Implications for Intra-Arterial Therapy Brief Reports
Conclusions— The majority of anterior circulation proximal occlusions are ≥8 mm long, helping to explain the low published rates of intravenous tissue-type plasminogen activator recanalization. Internal carotid artery-terminus occlusion is an excellent marker for clot length ≥8 mm; vessel-imaging status alone may be sufficient. Thin-section noncontrast computed tomography seems useful for patients with middle cerebral artery occlusion because of the wide variability of clot lengths.

Thrombolysis for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Cancer: A Population Study Brief Reports
Conclusions— Thrombolytic therapy for acute stroke in patients with cancer is not associated with increased risk of intracerebral hemorrhage or in-hospital mortality. However, careful consideration of the cancer subtype may help delineate the subset of patients with poor response to thrombolysis. Prospective confirmation is warranted.

Good Outcome Rate of 35% in IV-tPA-Treated Patients With Computed Tomography Angiography Confirmed Severe Anterior Circulation Occlusive Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— IV-tPA treatment resulted in significantly better outcomes in patients with severely symptomatic stroke with major anterior circulation occlusions. The 35% good outcome rate was similar to rates found in endovascular therapy trials. Vascular imaging may help in patient selection and stratification for trials of IV-thrombolytic and endovascular therapies.

Conclusions— Induction of lymphocytopenia and concomitant reduction of microvascular thrombosis are key modes of FTY720 action in stroke. In contrast, our findings in Rag1–/– mice and cultured neurons argue against direct neuroprotective effects of FTY720.
