Comparing Mortality in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation who are Receiving a Direct Oral Anticoagulant or Warfarin: A Meta‐analysis of Randomized Trials
ConclusionCompared with warfarin therapy for stroke prevention in patients with AF, DOACs significantly reduce all‐cause mortality, vascular mortality and bleeding mortality. This mortality benefit appears to be driven by the reduction in vascular‐ and bleeding‐related mortality which, in turn, may be related to the reduction in intracranial bleeding. This article is protected by copyright. Antigen levels of coagulation factor XII, coagulation factor XI and prekallikrein, and the risk of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke in young women
ConclusionIncreased levels of FXI antigen were associated with an increase in IS risk, whereas they showed only a marginal association with MI risk. FXII antigen and PK antigen levels were not substantially associated with MI risk and IS risk.

ABO blood type and stroke risk: the REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke Study
ConclusionBlood type AB is associated with an increased risk of stroke that is not attenuated by conventional stroke risk factors, and factor VIII levels were associated with 60% of the association. While blood type AB is rare in the US population, it is a significant stroke risk factor and may play an important role in stroke risk in these individuals.

Thrombolytic therapy or surgery for valve prosthesis thrombosis: systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionMortality in patients treated by thrombolytic therapy for valve prosthesis thrombosis is significantly lower than in patients treated surgically. As we cannot yet ascertain whether this difference is due to the treatment alone, more studies now are necessary to further clarify these findings. This article is protected by copyright. Circulating desphospho‐uncarboxylated matrix Gla protein and the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
This study could not confirm that high dp‐ucMGP concentrations, reflecting a poor vitamin K status, are associated with increased CHD or stroke risk in the general population. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Comparison of idrabiotaparinux with vitamin K antagonists for prevention of thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation: the Borealis‐AF study
ConclusionIf anything, despite its early termination the idrabiotaparinux regimen studied suggested a comparable efficacy to dose‐adjusted warfarin, with a lower bleeding risk. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Associations of Pentraxin 3 with Cardiovascular Disease: The Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis
ConclusionsIn these apparently healthy adults, PTX3 was associated with CVD risk factors, subclinical CVD, CAC and incident coronary heart disease events independent of CRP and CVD risk factors. These results support the hypothesis that PTX3 reflects different aspects of inflammation than CRP and may provide additional insight into the development and progression of atherosclerosis. This article is protected by copyright. Improving Prediction of Recanalization in Acute Large Vessel Occlusive Stroke
ConclusionsAcute endovascular treatment is the single most important factor promoting recanalization in acute ischemic stroke. Presence of extracranial vessel stenosis or occlusion decreases recanalization rates. In patients with intracranial occlusions, higher NIHSS and ASPECTS and normal vigilance facilitate recanalization. Integration in treatment algorithms could influence recanalization strategies in individual patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Lack of secondary microthrombosis after thrombin‐induced stroke in mice and non‐human primates
ConclusionsOur data demonstrates that secondary microthrombosis does not occur after thrombin‐induced stroke. In view of that, the pathophysiological roles of hematologic players promoting or protecting from secondary microthrombosis (such as Factor XII, von Willebrand Factor, T‐cells…) deserve to be reevaluated in non‐TMVO stroke models. This article is protected by copyright.
