Contemporary antiplatelet treatment in acute coronary syndrome patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: One‐year outcomes from the GReek AntiPlatelet Registry (GRAPE)
ConclusionsIn real‐word ACS/PCI patients, prasugrel offered better antiischemic protection than clopidogrel, while use of both novel agents is accompanied by more frequent bleeding events. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

The role of CHADS2 and CHA2DS2‐VASc scores in the prediction of stroke in individuals without atrial fibrillation: a population‐based study
ConclusionsCHADS2 and CHA2DS2‐VASc scores have a relatively high performance for stroke/TIA prediction in individuals without AF which is comparable to their performance in patients with AF.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Impact of point‐of‐care INR monitoring on quality of treatment with vitamin K antagonists in non‐self‐monitoring patients: a cohort study
ConclusionsAlthough associated with lower TTR, point‐of‐care INR monitoring is a safe and effective alternative to laboratory INR monitoring in non‐self‐monitoring patients on vitamin K antagonists. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

The effect of carbamazepine on warfarin anticoagulation: a register‐based nationwide cohort study involving the Swedish population
ConclusionsFour out of five warfarin‐treated patients initiating co‐medication with carbamazepine experienced subtherapeutic anticoagulative effect within 3‐5 weeks. The warfarin dose was subsequently increased by 49%, a change that differed widely between patients. In order to avoid thrombosis and ischaemic stroke, the initiation of carbamazepine should be accompanied by close INR monitoring to better meet the anticipated increase in dose demand. This article is protected by copyright. Prediction models for intracranial hemorrhage or major bleeding in patients on antiplatelet therapy: a systematic review and external validation study
ConclusionA limited number of prediction models is available that predict intracranial hemorrhage or major bleeding in patients on antiplatelet therapy. Methodological quality of the models varied, but was generally low. Predictive performance in patients with cerebral ischemia was poor. In order to reliably predict the risk of bleeding in patients with cerebral ischemia, development of a prediction model according to current methodological standards is needed. This article is protected by copyright. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and risk of a first episode of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation: a cohort study
ConclusionsThe neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio is directly associated with the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. Future studies are needed to replicate these findings.

Coagulation factor XII genetic variation, ex vivo thrombin generation, and stroke risk in the elderly: results from the Cardiovascular Health Study
ConclusionsThese results support the importance of contact activation pathway‐dependent TG as a risk factor for ischemic stroke, and indicate the importance of F12 SNPs for TG ex vivo and in vivo.

Acute hemorrhagic complications are associated with lower coated‐platelet levels in non‐lacunar brain infarction
ConclusionsLower levels of procoagulant platelets are associated with acute hemorrhagic complications following non‐lacunar ischemic stroke. These results suggest a role for coated‐platelets in risk/benefit assessment in the early stages of stroke. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

The prediction of postoperative stroke or death in patients with preoperative atrial fibrillation undergoing non‐cardiac surgery: a VISION sub‐study
ConclusionsIn AF patients, the 3 thromboembolic risk scores performed similarly to the RCRI in predicting death within 30 days and the CHADS2 score was the best predictor of postoperative stroke/death regardless of type of surgery. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Hemodialysis for the treatment of dabigatran‐associated bleeding: a case report and systematic review
ConclusionsIn patients with dabigatran associated bleeding, RRT appears to be effective in reducing dabigatran concentrations and in case reports this has been associated with a reduction in duration and/or severity of bleeding. However, a rebound in concentrations may be seen following withdrawal of RRT suggesting that a prolonged course of RRT may be more effective. This article is protected by copyright.
