Warfarin-induced isolated spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage: Rare case report
CONCLUSION: Warfarin is rarely associated with isolated subarachnoid hemorrhage. This case highlights a young male patient with spontaneous SAH after warfarin therapy for acute ischemic stroke. Aneurysmal rupture and trauma should be excluded before a diagnosis of warfarin-induced SAH is made.PMID:36582886 | PMC:PMC9793204 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104946

'Dense Inverted Triangle Sign' in Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Intern Med. 2022 Nov 30. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.0764-22. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe early diagnosis of cerebral venous thrombosis in the emergency department is challenging. A 70-year-old man presented to the emergency department after falling with new-onset convulsions. Brain unenhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed right frontal hemorrhage indicative of traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Brain unenhanced CT on day 2 revealed increased density in the anterior superior sagittal sinus (SSS), namely 'dense inverted triangle sign.' Brain magnetic resonance venography showed a filling defect in the ante...

Naoxintong Capsule for Secondary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke: A Multicenter, Randomized, and Placebo-Controlled Trial
ConclusionThe combination of Naoxintong Capsule with standard care reduced the 2-year stroke recurrence rate in patients with ischemic stroke without increasing the risk of severe hemorrhage in high-risk patients. (Trial registration No. NCT02334969)

Craniocervical Artery Dissections: A Concise Review for Clinicians
Craniocervical artery dissection (CAD), although uncommon, can affect the young and lead to devastating complications, including stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage. It starts with a tear in the intima of a vessel with subsequent formation of an intramural hematoma. Most CAD occurs spontaneously or after minor trauma. Patients with CAD may exhibit isolated symptoms of an underlying subclinical connective tissue disorder or have a clinically diagnosed connective tissue disorder. Emergent evaluation and computed tomography angiography or magnetic resonance imaging/angiography of the head and neck are required to screen for and to diagnose CAD.

The clinical and neuroradiological features of patients of coexisting atraumatic convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage and large artery atherosclerosis stroke: A retrospective observational study
Atraumatic convexity subarachnoid hemorrhage (c-SAH) concomitant with large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) stroke has been rarely discussed in the literature. Our aim in this study is to characterize the clinical and neuroradiological features of patients with LAA stroke and c-SAH. A retrospective study from a single institution was performed between January 2016 and June 2020. Only patients diagnosed with c-SAH and LAA stoke were included in this study. The clinical presentation and neuroimaging finding were summarized by our experienced neurologists. In total, 12 patients (8 men, 4 women), ranging in age from 45 to 7...

The Effects of Body Mass Index on In-hospital mortality following first ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke events: Does the "obesity paradox" apply?
CONCLUSION: Obese patients are less likely to die during hospitalization following first-time non-subarachnoid hemorrhage and ischemic stroke than non-overweight/non-obese patients. These findings support the "obesity paradox" concept, though more research is needed for recurrent stroke patients.PMID:34691415 | PMC:PMC8519764 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2021.102839

Differentiation between Stroke Subtypes and the Causes of Monthly Variations: The Akita Stroke Registry
Conclusion Our findings suggest that lowering BP would be the best strategy for CH prevention. Simple daily actions may be affected by cold stress. As physicians, we must strive to help patients lower their BP throughout the year not only with medication but with lifestyle guidance, especially in winter.PMID:33775996 | DOI:10.2169/internalmedicine.6146-20

Long-term functional prognosis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage treated with rehabilitation combined with hyperbaric oxygen: Case-series study
The long-term prognosis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) has received increasing attention in recent years. Hyperbaric oxygen and rehabilitation are already used in clinical treatment of patients with aSAH, but it is unclear whether it can improve the long-term prognosis of patients postoperation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term prognosis and prognostic factors associated with combined rehabilitation and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for patients with aSAH. Information were retrospectively collected from patients with aSAH treated from October 2014 to July 2017, including demo...
