Neurodegenerative disease is associated with increased incidence of epilepsy: a population based study of older adults
ConclusionIncident epilepsy is more frequently diagnosed among neurodegenerative disease patients, particularly when preceded by a diagnosis of depression, TBI or stroke. Further studies into the differences in epilepsy risk between these two populations may help elucidate different mechanisms of epileptogenesis.

The Prevalence and Factors Associated with Antiepileptic Drug Use in US Nursing Home Residents
ConclusionsAED use was common in nursing homes, with gabapentin most commonly used (presumably for pain). That multiple comorbidities were associated with AED use underscores the need for future studies to investigate the safety and effectiveness of AED use in nursing home residents.

Seize the Day for a Day With No Seizures: Modifiable Midlife Risk Factors Identified.
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Potentially modifiable risk factors in midlife and the APOE ε4 genotype were positively associated with risk of developing late-onset epilepsy. Predictors of incident epilepsy in older adults: The Cardiovascular Health Study
Conclusions: Epilepsy in older adults in the United States was common. Blacks, the very old, and those with history of stroke have a higher risk of incident epilepsy. The association with race remains unexplained.

Prevalence of epilepsy/seizures as a comorbidity of neurologic disorders in nursing homes
Conclusions: The prevalence of epi/sz in the elderly nursing home population is >7-fold higher compared to community-dwelling elderly and is 7 to 30 times higher among those with certain comorbid neurologic conditions. Demographics and clinical characteristics had weaker associations with epi/sz prevalence.
