Lack of intra-aortic balloon pump effectiveness in high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions without cardiogenic shock: A comprehensive meta-analysis of randomised trials and observational studies
Conclusions: The results suggest that PCI plus P-IABP support does not result in reduced in-hospital mortality or MACCE nor in significant higher access-site complications or stroke incidence compared with PCI alone in patients at high risk for peri-procedural PCI complications.

Outcome of primary PCI - An Indian tertiary care center experience.
CONCLUSION: Our study has shown that PPCI is feasible with good outcomes in Indian scenario. Even though the recommended door-to-balloon time can be achieved, the total ischemic time remained long. CS in the setting of STEMI was associated with poor outcomes. PMID: 24581092 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract 1: Incidence and Predictors of Cognitive Decline in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices Session Title: Concurrent Session IB: Oral Abstracts - QCOR Young Investigator Awards
Conclusion: In a large LVAD registry, cognitive decline occurred in over a quarter of patients in the year after LVAD and was associated with older age, renal disease, higher baseline cognitive function, and more stable heart failure at implant. These results define the frequency of an important adverse event and provide new insights regarding outcomes after LVAD. Future studies are needed to explore the association of transient and permanent cognitive decline with subsequent stroke, health status, and mortality in patients after LVAD placement.

Adverse Event Profile Associated with Prolonged Use of CentriMag Ventricular Assist Device for Refractory Cardiogenic Shock
In conclusion, temporary VAD with CentriMag support is an effective treatment for patients in refractory cardiogenic shock. Despite its side effect, profile including a high rate of blood transfusion early in the immediate postoperative period of CentriMag support, aggressive use of the CentriMag support device has acceptable survival to discharge and 1 year survival.

Prognostic Factors for Survival After Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Cardiogenic Shock
The aim of this study is to examine factors that can predict mortality in patients that have veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) instituted for cardiogenic shock. A single-center, retrospective study of 127 patients who underwent VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock between January 2003 and December 2017 was conducted. Eighty-three (65%) patients survived to weaning or bridging therapy. Complications on VA-ECMO include: hemorrhage (40%), stroke (14%), requirement for dialysis (42%), and limb ischemia (24%). Predictors of Survival to Discharge After Successful Weaning From Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in Patients With Cardiogenic Shock.

Clinical outcomes of patients after using prehospital fibrinolytic therapy: a systematic review
Conclusion: FT was more effective in prehospital treatment to reduce deaths after five years, however, reinfarction and stroke occurred similarly in the sample analyzed. The time factor reduced clinical outcomes, especially when the implemented therapy occurred within two hours after the occurrence of STEMI. Thus, although the interventions presented similar outcomes. However, FT may represent a viable treatment in places where PPCI cannot be achieved in a timely manner.

Impact of a surgical approach for implantation of durable left ventricular assist devices in patients on extracorporeal life support
ConclusionLIS for implantation of a durable LVAD in patients on va ‐ECLS implanted for cardiogenic shock is associated with less revision due to bleeding, less administration of blood products and absence of perioperative stroke, with no impact on survival.

Impella versus extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in cardiogenic shock: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions: In patients with CS, the use of Impella is associated with lower rates of in-hospital mortality, bleeding, and stroke than ECMO. Future randomized studies with adequate sample sizes are needed to confirm these findings.

Early intravenous beta-blockers in patients with acute coronary syndrome—A meta-analysis of randomized trials
Conclusions: Intravenous beta-blockers early in the course of appropriate patients with ACS appears to be associated with significant reduction in the risk of short-term cardiovascular outcomes, including a reduction in the risk of all-cause mortality.
