Incident Stroke Is Associated With Common Carotid Artery Diameter and Not Common Carotid Artery Intima-Media Thickness Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Although common carotid IMT is not associated with stroke, interadventitial diameter of the common carotid artery is independently associated with first-time incident ischemic stroke even after adjusting for IMT. Our hypothesis that this is in part attributable to the effects of exposure to blood pressure needs confirmation by other studies. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. In this study, we investigated whether QT interval dynamics is different in patients with right and left middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory stroke.Method: Electrocardiogram (ECG) intervals were compared between baseline (retrieved retrospectively from medical records) and admission (acquired at the acute hospital admission) in 33 patients (65 ± 9.5 years) with right or left MCA territory ischemic stroke. Sensitivity of transcranial doppler and transoesophageal echocardiography for the detection of patent foramen ovale in cryptogenic stroke
Conclusions TCD with bubble test is sensitive and specific for the detection of right–to–left shunts due to PFO confirmed at right heart catheterisation. In this population, TOE had low sensitivity for RLS. There was no difference in physical PFO size between TOE positive and negative patients.

Free Floating Left Atrial Ball Thrombus: A Rare Cause of Stroke
We report a case of cardioembolic stroke as a result of free floating left atrial ball thrombus presenting as a complication of rheumatic mitral valve disease. This case highlights that, in all patients with a history of structural heart disease, atrial fibrillation, or rheumatic fever, prompt cardiac ultrasound to exclude free floating atrial thrombus is essential.

Cardiovascular diseases in patients 65 years and younger with non-cardiogenic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Aetiologically heterogeneous stroke and cardiogenic stroke are the most commonly observed among young stroke patients. Cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation are the most common sources of cerebral embolism in young patients with cardiogenic stroke. Nearly 1/5 of patients with a non-cardiogenic stroke have congenital or acquired structural changes in the heart. PMID: 27279848 [PubMed]

Exploring Carotid Sonographic Parameters Associated With Stroke Risk Among Hypertensive Stroke Patients Compared to Hypertensive Controls
Conclusions— Among hypertensive patients, the common carotid artery diameter and EDV are significantly associated with stroke risk. These findings have implications for development and evaluation of stroke prevention programs.

Intracranial Large Artery Disease is Independently Associated with Poor Functional Outcome in a Cohort of Ethnic South Asian Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: The presence of ICLAD rendered poorer functional prognosis after stroke. These findings support the specific evaluation of the benefits of known acute stroke treatments such as thrombolysis, as well as investigation of potential novel strategies such as acute stenting.

The contribution of systematic implementation of cardiovascular explorations for the detection of cardiac sources of embolism in patients with stroke: About 230  patients.
CONCLUSION: Cardiovascular explorations remain indispensable in the workup of all ischemic strokes even if their therapeutic effect is modest.
