Migraine and Medical Ramifications: A Comprehensive Overview Based on Observational Study Meta-Analyses
Conclusion: The results showed that migraine increased the risk of 29 health outcomes, though lowered the risk of breast cancer. However, evidence quality was graded as high only for angina. The evidence quality of ischaemic stroke, stroke, MACCE, WMAs, and asthma was graded as moderate. All remaining 24 outcomes had an evidence grade of “weak.”

The Potential Clinical Properties of Magnesium.
Abstract A significant percentage of costs in pharmaceutical markets is devoted to supplements, due to the confidence of consumers on the beneficial effects of these products. Magnesium is one of the supplements with enduring and increasing popularity. According to what is reported online this metal ion can cure, or prevent, almost all kind of diseases. This review aims at illustrating a series of scientifically demonstrated cases in which magnesium was used in clinical practice. Except for its ordinary use as antacid and laxative, other ascertained uses, reported in scientific literature, consist in helping to tr...

A COVID-19 patient with intense burning pain
AbstractA woman in her forties with asthma and COPD was admitted to a general medical floor with respiratory symptoms, body aches, and anosmia. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction detected severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2. Admission labs, including biomarkers of the systemic immunological dysfunction seen in many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), were within normal ranges. On the second day of admission, she developed neck and back pain that was constant, burning in quality, and exacerbated by light touch and heat. Wearing clothing caused pain and interfered with her sleep. The area w...

Rapid Disappearance of Intraventricular Mobile Structures with Steroids in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis
Endomyocarditis in Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare complication, commonly involving an apical mass compatible with a thrombus. However, no previous report has discussed mobile structures detected by echocardiography in a patient with EGPA. A 53-year-old man with asthma presented with low-grade fever, consciousness disturbance, and vomiting. Magnetic resonance imaging showed multiple acute infarctions in the bilateral cerebrum and cerebellum. Remarkable eosinophilia was observed, and transthoracic echocardiography showed multiple mobile structures originating from the left ventricular septum.

Neurological Involvement in Primary Systemic Vasculitis
Conclusion Neurological involvement is a common complication of PSV (Table 1), and neurologists play an important role in the identification and diagnosis of PSV patients with otherwise unexplained neurological symptoms as their chief complaint. This article summarizes the neurological manifestations of PSV and hopes to improve neuroscientists' understanding of this broad range of diseases. TABLE 1 Table 1. Common CNS and PNS involvements of primary systemic vasculitis. Author Contributions SZ conceived the article and wrote the manuscript. DY and GT reviewed and edited the manuscript. All authors ...

Multiple Cerebral Infarctions Due to Patent Foramen Ovale in a Patient with Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis
A 51-year-old man was diagnosed with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis 6 years ago due to asthma, sinusitis, hypereosinophilia, and peripheral neuropathy based on the diagnostic criteria of American College of Rheumatology, and corticosteroid therapy achieved a remission. One year ago, he was hospitalized due to deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism, and rivaroxaban was administrated. He was admitted to our hospital for acute onset of diplopia and right hemiparesis. Peripheral blood examinations disclosed leukocytosis with hypereosinophilia.

Mystery Case: Diagnostic challenges in a young patient with hypereosinophilia
A 48-year-old woman with recent diagnosis of nonischemic cardiomyopathy and longstanding history of asthma and allergic rhinitis without additional vascular risk factors had intermittent chest pain and dyspnea for 6 weeks, treated with antibiotics and oral steroids without benefit. Subsequently, she developed bilateral leg edema, orthopnea, and chest pain, and was hospitalized twice at another institution. Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) demonstrated an ejection fraction (EF) of 30%. Cardiac catheterization was normal. CT of the chest showed a large pericardial effusion (~300 mL) and bilateral pleural effusions. She had...

MMP-12, a Promising Therapeutic Target for Neurological Diseases
AbstractThe role of matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12) in the pathogenesis of several inflammatory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, and asthma is well established. Several new studies and recent reports from our laboratory and others highlighted the detrimental role of MMP-12 in the pathogenesis of several neurological diseases. In this review, we discuss in detail the pathological role of MMP-12 and the possible underlying molecular mechanisms that contribute to disease pathogenesis in the context of central nervous system diseases such as stroke, spinal cord injury, and multiple sclero...

ANCA-Negative Churg –Strauss Syndrome Presenting as Acute Multiple Cerebral Infarcts: A Case Report
We report a case of a 63-year-old woman with multiple embolic infarcts, hypereosinophilia (for>7 years), and skin rash. Elevated cardiac enzymes and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging were consistent with endomyocarditis. The simultaneous presence of history of asthma, sinusitis, hypereosinophilia, and vasculitis led to the diagnosis of EGPA.

Asthma and Risk of Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Several studies have suggested that asthma is associated with an increased risk of stroke. However, the results are inconsistent. The aim of this study is to investigate the relation of asthma and the risk of stroke through a systematic review and meta-analysis of published research.

Multiple cerebral and cerebellar infarcts as the first clinical manifestation in a patient with Churg-Strauss syndrome: case report and literature review.
CONCLUSION: Symptoms and signs of central nervous system can be the initial neurological manifestation of CSS patients. CSS should be considered while patients have stroke and hypereosinophilia. In our patient, there is a good response to timely steroid, immunosuppressant and anticoagulant therapies. PMID: 23329548 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Comorbidities and Causes of Death in a Cohort of 205 Patients with Parkinsonism (P2.057)
Conclusion: Pneumonia remains the commonest cause of death in patients with parkinsonism. Most patients have different forms of treatable comorbidites and PD is underreported on DC.Disclosure: Dr. Moscovich has nothing to disclose. Dr. Boschetti has nothing to disclose. Rare Presentation of Churg-Strauss Syndrome: Intracerebral Hemorrhage, Subdural Hemorrhage and an Intracranial Aneurysm (P2.103)
DISCUSSION:CSS can present with rare neurologic complications namely peripheral neuropathy, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and much less commonly - intracranial aneurysms. Our patient also had cardiac masses that resolved after treatment with high dose steroids. Subdural hemorrhage along with a left MCA aneurysm related to CSS has not been previously reported in literature.Disclosure: Dr. Chahil has nothing to disclose. Dr. Morgan has nothing to disclose.
