Diurnal cortisol features with cardiovascular disease in hypertensive patients: a cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Flatter DCS and higher midnight cortisol levels are associated with an increased risk of CVD in patients with hypertension, especially in men. The detection of diurnal cortisol rhythm may help identify patients with hypertension at high risk of CVD.PMID:36070421 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-22-0412

Associations of sleep apnea risk and oxygen desaturation indices with cerebral small vessel disease burden in patients with stroke
ConclusionIn patients with TIA/minor stroke, high OSA-risk was associated with a greater CSVD burden. Oxygen desaturation indices (ODI and DesDur) rather than AHI were independently associated with global CSVD burden, indicating that longer and more severe desaturations may contribute to the pathogenesis of CSVD.

What is Ondine ’ s Curse?
Discussion Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is an autosomal dominant with variable inheritance genetic disease caused by mutation in the Paired Like Homeobox B2 (PHOX2B) gene on chromosome 4. There are two other genes which may also cause CCHS. CCHS affects the chemoreceptor afferent ventilation pathways and is a neural crest migration problem of the autonomic nervous system. The incidence is unknown but a prevalence of 1 in 200,000 live births has been reported. Obviously it is a rarer phenomenon because of the general lethality of the syndrome. Patients usually present at birth or soon afterwards, but o...

Association between obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular diseases
Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai). 2022 Jul 25. doi: 10.3724/abbs.2022084. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common respiratory disorder characterized by partial obstruction of upper respiratory tract and repetitive cessation of breathing during sleep. The etiology behind OSA is associated with the occurrence of intermittent hypoxemia, recurrent arousals and intrathoracic pressure swings. These contributing factors may turn on various signaling mechanisms including elevated sympathetic tone, oxidative stress, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, cardiovascular variability, abnormal coagul...
