Perioperative stroke
Conclusions Perioperative stroke carries a significant clinical burden. The incidence of perioperative stroke may be higher than previously recognized, and there are diverse pathophysiologic mechanisms. There are many opportunities for further investigation of the pathophysiology, prevention, and management of perioperative stroke.

Blood transfusion for preventing primary and secondary stroke in people with sickle cell disease.

Stroke Mortality Outcomes in Uganda (S32.002)
Conclusions:Our study highlights the poor outcome of stroke patients in southwestern Uganda with an overall 30-day mortality of 38.1%, and identifies NIHSS at admission, female sex, anemia, and HIV infection as predictors of mortality. An analysis of the risk of perioperative ischemic stroke in patients undergoing non-cardiovascular and non-neurological surgeries.

Outcome of overt stroke in sickle cell anaemia, a single institution's experience
Summary Stroke is a traumatic complication in sickle cell anaemia (SCA) that is associated with significant morbidity and a risk of recurrent overt stroke of 2·2–6·4 events per 100 patient‐years. A retrospective study was performed on all paediatric SCA patients diagnosed with a history of overt stroke between 1997 and 2010. A total of 31 children with SCA had new onset overt stroke. The impact of anemia on the course and short-term prognosis in patients with first ever ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Mild anemia did not influence significantly the neurological condition in acute phase of stroke but worsened the functional status in subacute phase of stroke. The neurological state on the first day of stroke and the hemispheric location of cerebral ischemia are independent factors of poor prognosis in patients with anemia in short-term follow-up. Antiplatelet therapy for preventing stroke in patients with chronic kidney disease.
Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD), defined as reduced glomerular filtration rate and/or proteinuria, is a serious worldwide health problem.
