Electrocardiogram alterations in non-traumatic brain injury: a systematic review
AbstractThe presence of abnormal electrocardiograms in individuals without known organic heart disease is one of the most common manifestations of cardiac dysfunction occurring during acute non traumatic brain injury. The primary goal of the present review is to provide an overview of the available data and literature regarding the presence of new-onset electrocardiographic (ECG) alterations in acute non traumatic brain injury. The secondary aim is to identify the incidence of ECG alterations and consider the prognostic significance of new-onset ECG changes in this setting. To do so, English language articles from January ...

Combined coronary and carotid artery disease: what to operate on first? or both at the same time?
Heart disease and stroke rank amongst the top four leading causes of death in the United States.1 Studies have demonstrated a positive correlation between the two, even suggesting that carotid artery disease may predict the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD).2,3 In fact, some have found that the prevalence of carotid artery stenosis (CAS) in those undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) may be as high as 8-14%.4 Despite such co-existence, there remains no clear consensus Guidelines for revascularization in patients with co-existing CAD and CAS.

Prevalence, pattern, and correlates of dyslipidemia in Bangladeshi individuals
Stroke and ischaemic heart disease accounted for the top two causes of death in Bangladesh1. Dyslipidemia is identified as a significant independent modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) that has been strongly connected to the pathophysiology of CVDs2. Dyslipidemia is defined as the presence of abnormal blood concentrations of one or more of the following lipids (fat): total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG)3.

Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China 2022: an Updated Summary
Biomed Environ Sci. 2023 Aug 20;36(8):669-701. doi: 10.3967/bes2023.106.ABSTRACTIn the past 30 years, the accessibility and quality index of medical care have made remarkable progress in China, ranking the first among middle-income countries. Many cardiovascular technologies are at or near the world's leading level, and significant progress has been achieved in China solving the problem of "treatment difficulty" of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, due to the prevalence of unhealthy lifestyles among Chinese residents, a huge population with CVD risk factors, accelerated population aging, and other reasons, the incide...

Sleep duration and risk of stroke and coronary heart disease: a 9-year community-based prospective study of 0.5 million Chinese adults
CONCLUSIONS: While abnormal sleep duration (≤ 6 h or ≥ 9 h) was associated with higher risks of CVD, the risks were more extreme for those reporting ≤ 5 or ≥ 10 h, respectively and such individuals should be prioritised for more intensive treatment for CVD prevention.PMID:37710209 | DOI:10.1186/s12883-023-03367-4
