Effects of the menstrual cycle on EPOC and fat oxidation after low-volume high-intensity interval training
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that the menstrual cycle does not affect the increase in EPOC or fat oxidation after low-volume HIIT.PMID:37712928 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.15209-1

The chronic alcohol consumption influences the gonadal axis in men: Results from a meta ‐analysis
ConclusionThis study suggests how chronic alcohol consumption may inhibit the gonadal axis in healthy men, although the exact pathophysiological mechanisms connecting alcohol exposure and steroidogenesis are still not completely clarified.

β-Estradiol and progesterone enhance biofilm development and persister cell formation in monospecies and microcosms biofilms derived from vulvovaginal candidiasis
Biofouling. 2023 Sep 12:1-11. doi: 10.1080/08927014.2023.2256674. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to: (1) evaluate the influence of the steroid hormones (SH) on biofilm development; (2) investigate the formation of persister cells (PC) in biofilms; and (3) investigate the influence of SH on PC formation. Biofilms were derived from vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) samples and evaluated by three models: microcosm biofilms grown in Vaginal Fluid Simulator Medium (MiB-VFSM); monospecies biofilms grown in VFSM (MoB-VFSM) and RPMI media (MoB-RPMI). SH altered cell counting and biomass of biofilms grown in VSF...

Interaction of pre and postnatal nutrition on expression of leptin receptor variants and transporter molecules, leptin transport, and functional response to leptin in heifers †
Biol Reprod. 2023 Sep 12:ioad118. doi: 10.1093/biolre/ioad118. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPerinatal nutrition modulates the hypothalamic neurocircuitries controlling GnRH release, thus programming pubertal maturation in female mammals. Objectives of experiments reported here were to test the hypotheses that prenatal nutrition during mid- to late gestation interacts with postnatal nutrition during the juvenile period in heifer offspring to alter expression of leptin receptor (LepR) variants (ObRa, ObRb, ObRc, ObRt), and lipoprotein transporter molecules (LRP1 and 2) in the choroid plexus, leptin transport across the bloo...

Endogenous Sex Hormone Levels and Myocardial Fibrosis in Men and Postmenopausal Women
CONCLUSIONS: Among older men, SH imbalances at initial evaluation were independently associated with CMR defined IMF and replacement fibrosis, respectively; while increasing total testosterone in middle-aged PMW was associated with lesser marker of IMF. Decoding SEC24 Homolog D, COPII coat complex component accuracy as a signature gene in three human cancers
In this study, we conducted an extensive investigation of SEC24D, aiming to elucidate its potential role and underlying mechanisms across multiple human tumors. Our analysis relied on data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. To validate our findings, we employed RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), targeted bisulfite sequencing (bisulfite-seq) molecular techniques. Our findings revealed elevated mRNA (Messenger RNA) and protein levels of SEC24D in different tumor tissues. However, the up-regulation of SEC24D was significantly correlated with shorter overall survival (OS), metastasis, and v...
