Leptin Enhances Hepatic Fibrosis and Inflammation in a Mouse Model of Cholestasis
Am J Pathol. 2021 Dec 8:S0002-9440(21)00523-X. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpath.2021.11.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLeptin is an adipokine with roles in food intake and energy metabolism through its actions on neurons in the hypothalamus. The role of leptin in obesity and cardiovascular disorders is well documented; however, its influence on liver conditions, such as cholestasis, is poorly understood. The effects of exogenous leptin and leptin-neutralizing antibody on biliary hyperplasia, hepatic fibrosis, and inflammation in the multidrug resistance protein 2 knockout (Mdr2KO) mouse model of cholestasis were assessed by quant...

The association of ribosomal protein L18 with Newcastle disease virus matrix protein enhances viral translation and replication
In this study, we found that the expression and transcription levels of RPL18 was reduced early in NDV infection but increased later in NDV infection. In addition, the presence of cytoplasmic NDV matrix (M) protein was responsible for the increased expression of RPL18 in both virus-infected cells and plasmid-transfected cells. Moreover, cytoplasmic M protein increased RPL18 expression in a dose-dependent manner, even though they did not interact with each other. Furthermore, siRNA-mediated knockdown of RPL18 or overexpression of RPL18 dramatically reduced or enhanced NDV replication by decreasing or increasing viral protei...

Down-Regulation of Casein Kinase 1 α Contributes to Endometriosis through Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog/Autophagy-Related 7-Mediated Autophagy
Am J Pathol. 2021 Dec;191(12):2195-2202. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpath.2021.08.015.ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to explore the roles of casein kinase 1α (CK1α) in endometriosis and its underlying mechanisms. Endometrial specimen were collected from the patients and healthy volunteers. The expression patterns of CK1α, phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), and autophagy-related proteins were determined using immunohistochemistry staining, Western blot analysis, and quantitative RT-PCR. Besides, the CK1α-overexpressing cells and PTEN knockdown cells were constructed in the endometrial stromal cells isolated from endometriosis...
