Ascorbic acid ameliorates corneal endothelial dysfunction and enhances cell proliferation via the noncanonical GLUT1-ERK axis
In this study, we aimed to investigate the ameliorative effect of ascorbic acid (AA) on CED and the underlying mechanism of action in the corneal endothelium.METHODS: Rabbit corneal endothelial damage was induced by anterior chamber injection of benzalkonium chloride (BAK). AA was topically administered to the corneal surface, and the transparency and thickness of the cornea were assessed by external eye photography, slit-lamp photography, and ultrasonic pachymetry. To further analyze the mechanism, rabbit CECs and immortalized human CECs (B4G12 cells) were cultured. A ferric reducing/antioxidant and AA (FRASC) assay was p...

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ rescues xCT-deficient cells from ferroptosis by targeting peroxisomes
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Nov;143:112223. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.112223. Epub 2021 Sep 25.ABSTRACTFerroptosis is a recently recognized process of cell death characterized by accumulation of iron-dependent lipid peroxides. Herein, we demonstrate that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ (PPARδ) inhibits ferroptosis of mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) derived from cysteine/glutamate transporter (xCT)-knockout mice. Activation of PPARδ by the specific ligand GW501516 led to a dose-dependent decrease in ferroptotic cell death triggered by xCT deficiency, along with decreased levels of intracellular iron accumu...

Inclisiran in lipid management: A Literature overview and future perspectives
Biomed Pharmacother. 2021 Sep 23;143:112227. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2021.112227. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary and secondary prevention protocols aim at reducing the plasma levels of lipids - with particular reference to low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) plasma concentrations - in order to improve the overall survival and reduce the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events. The use of statins has been widely considered as the first-line approach in lipids management as they can dramatically impact on the cardiovascular risk profile of individuals. The introduction of ezetimibe and proprotein conve...

NAP1L1 targeting suppresses the proliferation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
In this study, we detected the upregulated expression of NAP1L1 mRNA and protein levels by quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis in NPC cell lines. Results of the immunohistochemistry analysis of NPC tissue biopsies showed that upregulated NAP1L1 protein expression promoted NPC progression and negatively correlated with poor prognosis in NPC patients. Suppression of NAP1L1 expression by small interfering RNA (siRNA) or small hairpin RNA (shRNA) methods significantly decreased cell proliferation in vivo and in vitro. Mechanism analysis revealed that the regulation of cell growth was enriched by Ge...
