Molecular landscape of LncRNAs in bladder cancer: From drug resistance to novel LncRNA-based therapeutic strategies
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jul 31;165:115242. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115242. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBladder cancer (BC) is a common and serious type of cancer that ranks among the top ten most prevalent malignancies worldwide. Due to the high occurrence rate of BC, the aggressive nature of cancer cells, and their resistance to medication, managing this disease has become a growing challenge in clinical care. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a group of RNA transcripts that do not code for proteins and are more than 200 nucleotides in length. They play a significant role in controlling cellular pathways and molecu...

Systemic cytokines inhibition with Imp7 siRNA nanoparticle ameliorates gut injury in a mouse model of ventilator-induced lung injury
In this study, VILI was generated in mice with high tidal volume mechanical ventilation (20 ml/kg). Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and IL-6 concentrations in serum and gut measured by ELISA showed significant elevation in the VILI mice. Significant increases in gut injury and PANoptosis were observed in the VILI mice, which were positively correlated with the serum levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. The VILI mice displayed intestinal barrier defects, decreased expressions of occludin and zonula occludin-1 (ZO-1), and increased expression of claudin-2 and the activation of myosin light chain (...

Kaempferol attenuates nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in type 2 diabetic mice via the Sirt1/AMPK signaling pathway
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jul 5;165:115113. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115113. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common liver diseases with limited treatment options. Moreover, its prevalence is doubled in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Kaempferol (KAP) is a flavonoid compound that has been suggested to have beneficial effects on NAFLD, but studies on the mechanism are lacking, especially in the diabetic state. Herein, we investigated the effect of KAP on NAFLD associated with T2DM and its underlying mechanism in vitro and in vivo. The results of in vitro studies in...

Asiatic acid alleviates cisplatin-induced renal fibrosis in tumor-bearing mice by improving the TFEB-mediated autophagy-lysosome pathway
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jul 4;165:115122. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115122. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNephrotoxicity is a major side effect of cisplatin treatment of solid tumors in the clinical setting. Long-term low-dose cisplatin administration causes renal fibrosis and inflammation. However, few specific medicines with clinical application value have been developed to reduce or treat the nephrotoxic side effects of cisplatin without affecting its tumor-killing effect. The present study analyzed the potential reno-protective effect and mechanism of asiatic acid (AA) in long-term cisplatin-treated nude mice suffer...

A comprehensive review on the composition, biogenesis, purification, and multifunctional role of exosome as delivery vehicles for cancer therapy
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jun 29;165:115087. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115087. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAll forms of life produce nanosized extracellular vesicles called exosomes, which are enclosed in lipid bilayer membranes. Exosomes engage in cell-to-cell communication and participate in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Exosomes function via their bioactive components, which are delivered to target cells in the form of proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids. Exosomes function as drug delivery vehicles due to their unique properties of innate stability, low immunogenicity, biocompatibility, biodi...

The regulation of circRNA and lncRNAprotein binding in cardiovascular diseases: Emerging  therapeutic targets
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jun 29;165:115067. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115067. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNoncoding ribonucleic acids (ncRNAs) are a class of ribonucleic acids (RNAs) that carry cellular information and perform essential functions. This class encompasses various RNAs, such as small nuclear ribonucleic acids (snRNA), small interfering ribonucleic acids (siRNA) and many other kinds of RNA. Of these, circular ribonucleic acids (circRNAs) and long noncoding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) are two types of ncRNAs that regulate crucial physiological and pathological processes, including binding, in several organs...

Ginsenoside Rg1 ameliorates hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension by inhibiting endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition and inflammation by regulating CCN1
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 May 20;164:114920. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114920. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a chronic obstructive disease characterized by vascular remodeling. Studies have confirmed that ginsenoside Rg1 can improve pulmonary hypertension to a certain extent, but the potential mechanism by which it improves hypoxia-induced PAH remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on hypoxia-induced PAH. The results showed that hypoxia promoted inflammation, EndMT, and vascular remodeling, which were accompanied by decre...
