Novel treatment from a botanical formulation Si-Miao-Yong-an decoction inhibits vasa vasorum angiogenesis and stabilizes atherosclerosis plaques via the Wnt1/ β-catenin signalling pathway
CONCLUSIONS: SMYA has a protective effect against AS, which may be related to its anti-VV angiogenesis in plaques, suggesting that SMYA has the potential as a novel botanical formulation in the treatment of AS.PMID:37651108 | DOI:10.1080/13880209.2023.2249061

Statins, allies against antibiotic resistance?
Curr Med Chem. 2023 Aug 29. doi: 10.2174/0929867331666230829141301. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to the ever-increasing rate of antibacterial resistance, the search for effective antibacterial agents has become imperative. Researchers have investigated the potential antimicrobial properties of various classes of nonantibiotic drugs. Statins are a group of antihyperlipidemic drugs with several cholesterol-independent effects, including anti-inflammatory, immune-modulating, antioxidant, and antibacterial effects. In vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated the antibacterial properties of statins against various gram-...

Neutrophils for Revascularization Require Activation of CCR6 and CCL20 by TNF α
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrate that site-specific activation of the CCL20-CCR6 axis via TNFα recruits proangiogenic VEGFA-expressing neutrophils to sites of ischemic injury for initiation of muscle tissue revascularization. The findings provide an attractive option for tissue revascularization, particularly under diabetic conditions.PMID:37641931 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.323071

Recommendations for statin management in primary prevention: disparities among international risk scores
CONCLUSION: Risk algorithms differ substantially in their estimation of risk, recommendations for statin treatment, and use of ancillary testing, even in identical patients. These results highlight the limitations of currently used risk-based approaches for addressing lipid-specific risk in primary prevention.PMID:37638490 | DOI:10.1093/eurheartj/ehad539

Rhabdomyolysis-induced acute kidney injury after administration of a red yeast rice supplement: A case report
CONCLUSION: We speculate that statins, the main lipid-lowering component of RYR, or a combination of statins and abiraterone, will increase the risk of rhabdomyolysis.PMID:37637685 | PMC:PMC10450378 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v11.i23.5547

Silent Myocardial Infarction: A Case Report
We present a case of a 59-year-old overweight woman with prediabetes, primary hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia who presented for herpes zoster (HZ) follow-up; she reported having skipped heartbeats and heart rate fluctuations during the review of systems. On further workup, ECG revealed low voltage QRS complexes, flat QRS complexes, flat T waves, and pathological Q waves, suggesting the diagnosis of SMI. Based on the identified risk factors, including high BMI, prediabetes, primary hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, HZ, and newly diagnosed SMI, the patient was advised to continue with lisinopril 20 mg daily, prescri...
