Effect of a Family Pharmacist System on Medication Adherence of Patients with Dyslipidemia during a COVID-19 Epidemic
In this study, using anonymously processed receipt data from 700 insurance pharmacies in our group, we evaluated medication adherence in patients taking statin drugs before, during the first and second years of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic in terms of medication persistence and medication possession, and compared the results between the family pharmacist group (FP group) and non-family pharmacist group (NoFP group). The odds ratios of good medication adherence (medication persistence and medication possession) rates for the FP group relative to the NoFP group were 1.446 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.210-...

Cardiovascular diseases and their associations with lipid parameters and endothelial dysfunction in giant cell arteritis
CONCLUSIONS: GCA patients are at a high risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Of relevance, there was underuse of statins and a large proportion of these patients showed LDL cholesterol concentrations above the treatment targets for high-risk patients. These data underscore the need for improvement of preventive strategies to reduce cardiovascular risk in GCA patients.PMID:37657846 | DOI:10.1136/rmdopen-2023-003481

Effects and mechanism of Kedaling tablets for atherosclerosis treatment based on network pharmacology, molecular docking and experimental study
CONCLUSIONS: KDL attenuated AS in ApoE-/- mice, which was associated with a suppression of inflammatory signalling through the TNF and TGF-β pathways.PMID:37657772 | DOI:10.1016/j.jep.2023.117108

Defining Demographic-Specific Coronary Artery Calcium Percentiles in the Population Aged ≥75: The ARIC Study and MESA
CONCLUSIONS: In community-dwelling adults aged ≥75 years free of clinical coronary heart disease, the prevalence of zero CAC was 11%, and CAC >100 as a threshold for high ASCVD risk would categorize most of this older population as high risk. Demographic-specific CAC percentiles from this study are a valuable tool for interpreting CAC in the population aged ≥75 years.PMID:37655462 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCIMAGING.122.015145

Effect of Statins on Superoxide Dismutase Level: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: Our systematic review suggests that treatment with statins has a positive effect on SOD activity. However, evidence from further randomized controlled trials is required to confirm the potential antioxidant effect of statin therapy.PMID:37653630 | DOI:10.2174/0929867331666230831145809
