The potential impact of computed tomography coronary calcium score screening on patients with dyslipidemia
CONCLUSION: CAC scoring is associated with reduced risk of myocardial infarction and death in asymptomatic dyslipidemia patients and should be considered as a screening tool in these patients. The presumed mechanism for improved outcomes is that early identification of CAD results in earlier or more intensive treatment, reducing future cardiac event risk.PMID:37614860 | PMC:PMC10444005 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2023.2239083

Statin prescribing patterns in patient-centered medical home patients with NAFLD
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed no association between NAFLD and statin prescribing, and the findings highlight opportunities to improve primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in these at-risk patients.PMID:37616147 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2023.89406

The Effects of 3-Month Rosuvastatin Adjuvant Therapy on Post Thrombotic Syndrome following Deep Vein Thrombosis; a Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSION: Rosuvastatin administration in combination with rivaroxaban or warfarin significantly reduces the level of inflammatory factors including CRP and D-dimer, compared to patients receiving anticoagulants alone. Rosuvastatin administration can significantly reduce the incidence of PTS and cause a difference in the size of the lower limbs within 3 months.PMID:37609533 | PMC:PMC10440755 | DOI:10.22037/aaem.v11i1.1972

Hypercholesterolemia - who, when, how to treat?
Dtsch Med Wochenschr. 2023 Sep;148(17):1088-1094. doi: 10.1055/a-1956-9851. Epub 2023 Aug 23.ABSTRACTIn recent years, clinical scientific data on LDL cholesterol and atherosclerosis has led to lowering of LDL-C targets and the expansion of the indication for lipid drug therapy to larger populations or patients. The calculators SCORE2 and SCORE-OP were newly developed to calculate the cardiovascular risk in primary prevention. When assessing the cardiovascular risk of patients, in addition to e.g., pre-existing cardiovascular disease, familial hypercholesterolaemia and type II diabetes, type I diabetes, diabetic complicatio...

CYP2C19 Loss-of-Function Variants Associated with Long-term Ischemic Stroke Events During Clopidogrel Treatment in the Chinese Population
This study aims to determine whether CYP2C19 loss-of-function (LoF) variants were associated with long-term ischemic stroke risk in Chinese primary care patients treated with clopidogrel. Patients treated with clopidogrel were ascertained from a Chinese Electronic Medical Record linked with biobank for a retrospective cohort study. Their medical information was examined for the period from January 2018 to December 2021. Two CYP2C19 major loss of function variants (*2:rs4244285, *3: rs4986893) were genotyped. The clinical outcome was ischemic stroke event. Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between...

Impact of age on pre-procedural TIMI flow in STEMI patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention
CONCLUSION: The present study shows that among STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI, more advanced age represents an independent predictor of preprocedural IRA patency. Future studies will define the implications on procedural results and long-term prognosis.PMID:37605955 | DOI:10.2459/JCM.0000000000001482
