Resilience in Older Adults Diagnosed With Cancer and Receiving Chemotherapy
The objectives of this study were to review existing literature to understand and illustrate ways to assess and manage resilience when providing holistic care to older adults with cancer.METHODS: A review of the literature was conducted with a focus on assessment, management, and preservation of resilience in older adults with cancer.FINDINGS: Interventions to support resilience include managing problems that occur in the areas of nutrition, exercise, social support, cognition, functional status, and emotion. Cell cycle arrest using pharmacologic agents may provide a novel proactive approach to protect resilience from dete...

Effect of Chemotherapeutics on In Vitro Immune Checkpoint Expression in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Conclusion: Chemotherapy agents have different effects on the expression of ICP ligands in tumor cells with different pathological types, and this may affect the efficacy of combined immunotherapy. These results provide a theoretical basis for further selection and optimization of the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.PMID:37728201 | DOI:10.1177/15330338231202307

Clinical and dosimetric outcomes of image-guided, dose-painted radiotherapy in muscle invasive bladder cancer
CONCLUSION: Partial boost RT in MIBC is associated with good local disease control and high rates of cystectomy free survival. We observed a pattern of predominantly LR in the tumor bed, supporting the use of a dose-painted approach/de-escalation strategy to the uninvolved bladder. Prospective trials are required to compare oncological and toxicity outcomes between dose-painted and homogeneous bladder RT techniques.PMID:37730609 | DOI:10.1186/s13014-023-02338-w

Cisplatin-induced DNA crosslinks trigger neurotoxicity in C. elegans
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Cell Res. 2023 Sep 18:119591. doi: 10.1016/j.bbamcr.2023.119591. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe anticancer drug cisplatin (CisPt) injures post-mitotic neuronal cells, leading to neuropathy. Furthermore, CisPt triggers cell death in replicating cells. Here, we aim to unravel the relevance of different types of CisPt-induced DNA lesions for evoking neurotoxicity. To this end, we comparatively analyzed wild-type and loss of function mutants of C. elegans lacking key players of specific DNA repair pathways. Deficiency in ercc-1, which is essential for nucleotide excision repair (NER) and interstrand...

Impact of Surgical Management for Relapse After Conversion Hepatectomy for Initially Unresectable Colorectal Liver Metastasis: A Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: For IU-CRLM patients with liver relapse following conversion hepatectomy, the RLDT is essential for cure and prolonged survival. To avoid missing the opportunity for RLDT, intensive disease surveillance should be proposed.PMID:37730473 | DOI:10.1016/j.clcc.2023.08.007

Synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma and intestinal mantle cell lymphoma: A case report
CONCLUSION: Synchronous rectal adenocarcinoma and intestinal MCL presenting as multiple lymphomatous polyposis are extremely rare. MCL is often discovered fortuitously when rectal cancer is diagnosed. The coexistence of these tumors poses treatment challenges.PMID:37727717 | PMC:PMC10506007 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v11.i24.5772

Vomiting after intrathecal chemotherapy under anesthesia in pediatric patients with hematologic cancers: A cohort study
CONCLUSION: A high incidence of vomiting was observed within 24 h after intrathecal chemotherapy under propofol deep sedation. Risk factors for this outcome were established (being female, consolidation phase of treatment, and previous kinetosis), and evidence suggested that the Eberhart score was not suitable for the studied population.PMID:37727104 | DOI:10.1111/pan.14756

Updated guidelines for chronic active Epstein-Barr virus disease
Int J Hematol. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1007/s12185-023-03660-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic active Epstein-Barr virus disease (CAEBV), formerly named chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection, is characterized by systemic inflammation and clonal proliferation of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-infected T or NK cells. As CAEBV is a potentially life-threatening illness, appropriate diagnosis and therapeutic interventions are necessary for favorable clinical outcomes. Substantial evidence regarding the pathogenesis and treatment of CAEBV has been accumulated since previous guidelines for the diagnosis of CAEBV were proposed...
