A web-based prediction model for long-term cancer-specific survival of middle-aged patients with early-stage gastric cancer: a multi-institutional retrospective study
CONCLUSION: This study developed and validated a new nomogram to predict CSS in middle-aged patients with EGC. The prediction model has unique and practical value and can help doctors carry out individualized treatment and judge prognosis.PMID:37712958 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05405-7

Presentation of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor, Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma, and Gastric Adenocarcinoma in a Woman With No Identifiable Genetic Abnormalities
This report details the first known case of co-occurrence of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and gastric adenocarcinoma in an individual with no identifiable genetic abnormalities. The patient is a 57-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain. CT scan demonstrated a pancreatic mass, and endoscopic ultrasound demonstrated an additional gastric mass. Biopsy of both masses demonstrated adenocarcinoma; however, the masses were found to have different origins. The patient underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy with excellent response. She then underwent surgical intervention, which demonstr...

Melatonin Supplementation for Cancer-Related Fatigue in Patients With Early Stage Breast Cancer Receiving Radiotherapy: A Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS: In this double-blind placebo-controlled phase III trial, melatonin did not prevent or significantly improve fatigue and other symptoms in patients with early stage breast cancer undergoing RT. The analysis, showing little evidence of an effect, at mid-recruitment, assured early termination of the trial.PMID:37699115 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad250

Retrospective Evaluation of Short-Course versus Traditional Preoperative Chemotherapy in Thoracolumbar Spinal Tuberculosis Patients
CONCLUSIONS For patients suffering from thoracolumbar spinal tuberculosis exhibiting progressive neurological deterioration, surgical intervention is deemed feasible after a brief period (usually 1-7 days) of intensive preoperative antitubercular therapy. This finding suggests that short-course intensive preoperative chemotherapy may serve as a viable approach in managing such cases.PMID:37697647 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941003

Chemotherapy-related symptoms and exercise adherence in older patients with myeloid neoplasms
ConclusionsWe found that greater pain, sadness, and anxiety were associated with lower exercise adherence. Symptom monitoring and management in older adults with myeloid neoplasms receiving chemotherapy can promote exercise adherence and in turn improve symptoms.Trial RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04035499. Registered 7/29/2019.
