The Effect of the Mixed Extract of < em > Kalopanax pictus < /em > Nakai and < em > Achyranthes japonica < /em > Nakai on the Improvement of Degenerative Osteoarthritis through Inflammation Inhibition in the Monosodium Iodoacetate-Induced Mouse Model
The objective of this study is to confirm the potential of a mixture extract of Kalopanax pictus Nakai and Achyranthes japonica Nakai as a functional raw material for improving osteoarthritis through anti-inflammatory effects in macrophages and MIA-induced arthritis experimental animals. In macrophages inflamed by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), treatment of Kalopanax pictus Nakai and Achyranthes japonica Nakai mixture inhibits NF-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) activities, thereby inhibiting inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin 6 (IL-6), inflammatory factors PGE2, MMP-2, and...

Unlocking new approaches to Urolithiasis management via Nutraceutical
Curr Pharm Biotechnol. 2023 Aug 21. doi: 10.2174/1389201024666230821122416. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUrolithiasis, commonly known as kidney stones, is characterized by the formation of hard deposits in the urinary tract. These stones can cause severe pain and discomfort, and their management typically involves a combination of medical interventions and lifestyle modifications. According to the literature, 30% and 50% of urolithiasis cases recur. Between 9 and 12% of persons in industrialised countries are predicted to have urolithiasis at some time. Due to the high frequency of stone formation, recurrent nature, and p...

Formulation design and physicochemical evaluation of an anti-inflammatory hydrogel patch containing < em > Crinum asiaticum < /em > L. extract
CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATION: The optimized CAE hydrogel patch application was successfully formulated with excellent mechanical properties, cumulative release, permeation, and anti-inflammatory effects. Thus, it has the potential to be further developed as a herbal application to relieve pain and inflammation. The in vivo anti-inflammatory effect of this delivery system should be further investigated.PMID:37593159 | PMC:PMC10427795 | DOI:10.4103/1735-5362.371581

Cepharanthine and Oral Lichen Planus Efficacy (COLE) study: protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled study assessing the efficacy and safety of cepharanthine with topical corticosteroids in oral lichen planus
Introduction Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, inflammatory oral condition leading to a range of symptoms from mild discomfort to severe pain, affecting patients’ quality of life. Standard therapy involves the use of topical corticosteroids, although some patients respond insufficiently or develop resistance to therapy. We aim to explore if adding cepharanthine, an herbal extract from Stephania cepharantha Hayata, can enhance the efficacy of corticosteroid therapy in symptomatic OLP. Methods and analysis This open-label, parallel-group, multi-centre, randomised controlled study will be conducted at three Japane...

Saffron and crocin ameliorate prenatal valproic acid-induced autistic-like behaviors and brain oxidative stress in the male offspring rats
This study aimed to determine the effects of saffron extract and crocin against brain oxidative stress and behavioral, motor, and cognitive deficits in an animal model of autism in male offspring rats. 14 female rats were randomly divided into the saline and valproic acid (VPA) groups. Then, they were placed with mature male rats to mate and produce offspring. VPA (500  mg/kg, i.p.) was injected on day 12.5 of pregnancy (gestational day, GD 12.5) to induce an experimental model of autism. 48 male pups were left undisturbed for 29 days. First-round behavioral tests (before treatments) were performed on 30–33 post-natal ...

GC-MS Analysis of Persicaria bistorta: Uncovering the Molecular Basis of Its Traditional Medicinal Use
In this study, we used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis to identify the chemical composition of Persicaria bistorta. The GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of several compounds, including flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids. Among those, the most important from medicinal points of view are ethyl oleate (3%), cyclotetradecane (4.74%), dodecanoic acid (4.69%), hexadecanoic acid (5.61%), tetradecane (5.25%), cis-13-octadecenoic acid (10.91%), and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (32%). The GC-MS analysis of ethanolic fraction of Persicaria bistorta involved in antibacterial activity showed about 18 ...
