A Ruptured Cystic Echinococcosis in the Gallbladder and Intra/Extrahepatic Biliary Tract, Radiological and Surgical Imaging Findings
Turkiye Parazitol Derg. 2023 Sep 18;47(3):200-203. doi: 10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.65265.ABSTRACTCystic echinococcosis is a common parasitic infestation that can still cause serious complications in endemic areas. Intrabiliary rupture is a well-defined complication, but rupture into the gallbladder is rare. The disease may present with cholecystitis and cholangitis. Clinicians and radiologists working in the emergency room will find the management of the disease much easier if they become familiar with the clinical and radiological findings of the cyst. In this article, a 28-year-old male admitted to the emergency department...

Hosimosines A-E, structurally diverse cytisine derivatives from the seeds of Ormosia hosiei Hemsl. et Wils
Fitoterapia. 2023 Aug 28:105661. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2023.105661. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOrmosia hosiei Hemsl. et Wils (Fabaceae family) is an arbor species endemic to China. The seeds of O. hosiei have been used as traditional Chinese medicine to treat hernia, abdominal pain, blood stasis and amenorrhea. Cytisine-like and angustifoline type alkaloids were main components identified from this plant. In our research on the bioactive alkaloids from the promising Chinese medicinal plants, four new angustifoline type alkaloids (1-4) and a new cytisine-like alkaloid (5), named hosimosine A-E, together with 13 known ana...

Exploring the anticancer properties of the gum of < em > Ferula gummosa < /em > : impact on cytotoxicity, caspase 3/7 activity and apoptosis, and gene expression in SW-480 cells
This study aimed to identify the chemical components of the gum of F. gummosa and investigate its effects on SW-480 cells. The experiments included MTT, clonogenic, micronucleus formation, acridine orange/ethidium bromide stain, DNA degradation, caspase 3/7 activity assay, and in vitro wound-healing experiment and investigating the expression of BAX, BCL2, MTOR, and PTEN genes. Chemical analysis using GC/MS identified 102 compounds. The gum had a significant cytotoxic effect on SW-480 cells, with an IC50 value of 1.8 µg/ml for 48 hours. The gum induced apoptosis. Microscopic observations revealed a decrease in cell prolif...

Cases of Tick-Borne Illnesses Are on the Rise. Some Experts Believe Climate Change is the Cause
(NEW YORK) — In 2022, doctors recorded the first confirmed case of tick-borne encephalitis virus acquired in the United Kingdom. It began with a bike ride. [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] A 50-year-old man was mountain biking in the North Yorkshire Moors, a national park in England known for its vast expanses of woodland and purple heather. At some point on his ride, at least one black-legged tick burrowed into his skin. Five days later, the mountain biker developed symptoms commonly associated with a viral infection — fatigue, muscle pain, fever. At first, he seemed to be on the mend, bu...

A Case Report on Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Secondary to Neurobrucellosis in a Patient with Cerebral Aneurysm
In this report, a case of neurobrucellosis confirmed by cerebrospinal fluid agglutination test and who developed subarachnoid hemorrhage associated with cerebral aneurysm, which is a rare condition in its course was presented. Serum Rose Bengal test and serum Brucella standard tube agglutination (STA) tests were positive at a titer of 1/640 in a 38-year-old male patient who had complaints of fever, sweating, myalgia, arthralgia, weakness, head-neck-back pain and difficulty in walking for 14 days. On magnetic resonance imaging, Brucella sacroiliitis was identified. The patient's fever, head and neck pain continued and nucha...
