EPH47 Active Surveillance for Safety Monitoring of COVID-19 Vaccines in Saudi Arabia
It is generally accepted that the world will not return to the pre-pandemic normally situation until safe and effective vaccines become available. However, the rare and unknown adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) are not usually detected in the clinical trials. Thus, monitoring the safety of coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines in real-world population is essential. Therefore, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) performed a post-marketing safety surveillance of AEFIs following administration of COVID-19 vaccines.

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 4734: Bayesian Noise Modelling for State Estimation of the Spread of COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia with Extended Kalman Filters
This study presents a method for testing the noise covariance in cases of dependence or independence between the infected and death errors, to better understand their impact on the predictive accuracy and reliability of EKF statistical models. The proposed approach is able to reduce the error in the quantity of interest compared to the arbitrarily chosen values in the EKF estimation.

The risk of venous thromboembolism and blood hyperlactatemia is associated with increased mortality among critically ill patients with Covid-19
CONCLUSION: VTE risk and blood hyperlactatemia have been associated with a higher mortality risk in critically ill Covid-19 patients who are hospitalized in the ICU in Saudi Arabia. According to our findings, these people needed more effective VTE prevention strategies based on a personalized assessment of their risk of bleeding. Moreover, persons without diabetes and other groups with a high risk of dying from COVID-19 may be recognized by measuring glucose as having elevated glucose and lactate jointly.PMID:37144596 | DOI:10.1111/crj.13628

Skin problems among the wheelchair users: a prospective cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Most of wheelchair users reported having a history of skin complaints, of which PU was the most common followed by traumatic wounds and fungal infections. Thus, spreading awareness of the risk factors and preventive methods would help them avoid its development and prevent its negative impact on quality of life. Assessing the different kinds of wheelchairs and cushions to avoid PUs would be an interesting area for future studies.PMID:37113875 | PMC:PMC10129230 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000098
