Pelvic insufficiency fractures and pelvic bone metastases after neoadjuvant (chemo)radiotherapy for rectal cancer
Conclusion: PIFs are a relatively common late complication of neoadjuvant (C)RT for rectal cancer but are often missed or misdiagnosed as pelvic bone metastases. The differentiation of PIFs from pelvic bone metastases is important because of a different treatment and disease outcome.PMID:37656773 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2252168

Randomized Trial of Exercise and Nutrition on Chemotherapy Completion and Pathologic Complete Response in Women With Breast Cancer: The Lifestyle, Exercise, and Nutrition Early After Diagnosis Study
CONCLUSION: Although a diet and exercise intervention did not affect RDI, the intervention was associated with a higher pCR in patients with hormone receptor-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative and triple-negative breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy.PMID:37656930 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.23.00871

Assessing the role of anastomotic level in low anterior resection (LAR) surgery among rectal cancer patients in the development of LAR syndrome: a systematic review study
CONCLUSIONS: LARS is a long-term complication following surgery, leading to reduced quality of life. Low anastomosis level has been reported as a possible risk factor. All of the studies in this systematic review were associated with an increased risk of LARS development among patients with low anastomosis.PMID:37653424 | DOI:10.1186/s12893-023-02166-5

Underutilization of Systemic Therapy in Patients With NSCLC Undergoing Pneumonectomy: A Missed Opportunity for Survival
CONCLUSIONS: A high proportion of patients who undergo pneumonectomy do not receive ST. Patient and socioeconomic factors are associated with the receipt of ST. Given its survival benefit, emphasis should be placed on multimodal treatment strategies, perhaps with greater consideration given to neoadjuvant approaches.PMID:37644968 | PMC:PMC10460993 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtocrr.2023.100547

Advances in the management of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma: transforming a life-threatening condition into a potentially treatable disease
Rev Endocr Metab Disord. 2023 Aug 31. doi: 10.1007/s11154-023-09833-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAnaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is an infrequent thyroid tumor that usually occurs in elderly patients. There is often a history of previous differentiated thyroid cancer suggesting a biological progression. It is clinically characterized by a locally invasive cervical mass of rapid onset. Metastases are found at diagnosis in 50% of patients. Due to its adverse prognosis, a prompt diagnosis is crucial. In patients with unresectable or metastatic disease, multimodal therapy (chemotherapy and external beam radiotherapy) has y...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4336: Appraisal of Systemic Treatment Strategies in Early HER2-Positive Breast Cancer & mdash;A Literature Review
Conclusion: The evaluation of tumor and LN staging and, hence, stratifying BC recurrence risk are decisive factors in guiding clinicians to optimize treatment decisions between the neoadjuvant versus adjuvant approaches. For each individual case, it is important to consider the most likely postsurgical outcome, since, if the patient does not obtain pCR following neoadjuvant treatment, they are eligible for adjuvant T-DM1 in the case of residual disease. This review of HER2-positive female BC outlines suitable neoadjuvant and adjuvant systemic treatment strategies for guiding clinical decision making around the selection of...

Clinical implications of dose to functional lung volumes in the trimodality treatment of esophageal cancer
CONCLUSION: Small ALV and increasing FLV exposed to intermediate (10 to 20 Gy) dose are associated to postoperative pulmonary complications. Changes of DLCO occur during nCRT but do not seem to be related to radiation dose to ALV or FLV. This information could attribute towards toxicity risk prediction and reduction strategies for EC.PMID:37643135 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2251091
