Comparison of Antiretroviral Therapies in Pregnant Women Living With Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Hepatitis B Virus: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: Over a short period of time, HBV DNA suppression was not different with one or two HBV-active agents. HbeAg loss occurred in a substantial proportion of participants. Perinatal transmission of HBV infection was low. Hepatitis B virus-active ART was well-tolerated in pregnancy, with few grade 3 or 4 ALT or AST elevations.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01061151.PMID:37535953 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005302

Modeling the impact of vaccination for the immunization Agenda 2030: Deaths averted due to vaccination against 14 pathogens in 194 countries from 2021 to 2030
Vaccine. 2023 Aug 1:S0264-410X(23)00854-X. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.07.033. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) Impact Goal 1.1. aims to reduce the number of future deaths averted through immunization in the next decade. To estimate the potential impact of the aspirational coverage targets for IA2030, we developed an analytical framework and estimated the number of deaths averted due to an ambitious vaccination coverage scenario from 2021 to 2030 in 194 countries.METHOD: A demographic model was used to determine annual age-specific mortality estimates associated with vaccine c...

Conserved use of the sodium/bile acid cotransporter (NTCP) as an entry receptor by hepatitis B virus and domestic cat hepadnavirus
Antiviral Res. 2023 Aug 1:105695. doi: 10.1016/j.antiviral.2023.105695. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Orthohepadnavirus genus includes hepatitis B virus (HBV) that can cause chronic hepatitis and hepatocarcinoma in humans. Recently, a novel hepadnavirus in cats, domestic cat hepadnavirus (DCH), was identified that is genetically close to HBV. DCH infection is associated with chronic hepatitis in cats, suggesting a similarity with HBV pathogenesis and the potential to use DCH as a novel animal model for HBV research. HBV is shown to use the sodium/bile acid cotransporter (NTCP) as a major cell entry receptor, but the eq...

The Brazilian army and the low prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in women of the military garrison of Campinas between 2017 to 2020: a prospective, cross-sectional epidemiological study
CONCLUSIONS: The Brazilian Army has the most women-like dependents in the military, belonging to the hierarchical circle of the squares. Early onset of sexual activity favored STIs approximately twice, and younger women had approximately seven times more chlamydia infections. In the general population studied, the prevalence of STIs was lower than expected than in the armed forces of other nations.PMID:37531524 | PMC:PMC10393385 | DOI:10.1590/1516-3180.2022.0557.R1.010623

HBx promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression by repressing the transcription level of miR-187-5p
In conclusion, our results suggest that the inhibitory effect of HBx on miR-187-5p is mediated through the E2F1/FoxP3 axis. As shown in this work, HBx promotes hepatoma carcinoma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion through the E2F1/FoxP3/miR-187 axis. It provides a theoretical basis for finding therapeutic targets that will help clinic treatment for HCC.PMID:37531206 | DOI:10.18632/aging.204921

The role of KPNA2 as a monotonically changing differentially expressed gene in the diagnosis, risk stratification, and chemotherapy sensitivity of chronic hepatitis B-liver cirrhosis-hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSION: KPNA2 was a novel serum biomarker for diagnosing different CLH states, monitoring the dynamic evolution of CLH, and a new therapeutic target for intervening in the progression of CLH.PMID:37526663 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05213-z

Monitoring, prophylaxis, and treatment of infections in patients with MM receiving bispecific antibody therapy: consensus recommendations from an expert panel
Blood Cancer J. 2023 Aug 1;13(1):116. doi: 10.1038/s41408-023-00879-7.ABSTRACTBispecific antibodies (BsAbs) are emerging as an important novel class of immunotherapeutic agents for the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM), and are set to be more widely used in clinical practice. However, this new class of therapies is associated with a distinct adverse event (AE) profile that includes cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome, as well as AEs leading to increased infection risk such as cytopenias and hypogammaglobulinemia, and infections themselves. As preliminary data with this clas...

Rare case report: a 26-year-old man with Eales' disease
Conclusion: Despite the aggressive treatment with oral steroids, immunosuppressants, and anti-VEGF injections, there were many exacerbations, and remission was not achieved. As a result, aggressive neovascular glaucoma developed, which led to total blindness in the left eye and legal blindness in the right eye.
