Exploring Prevalence of Statin Intolerance in Patients on LDL-Lowering Therapy Using Epic
Statin intolerance (SI) has become controversial due to the publication of recent studies in which myalgias were as common in those taking a placebo (nocebo effect) as those taking a statin. Comparing statin prescriptions in patients with dyslipidemia with and without a statin listed as an allergy can help identify those patients who may not meet the criteria for SI, and perhaps benefit from another trial of a different type of statin.

Simvastatin as a topical anti ‐inflammatory: effect on airway epithelial cell homeostasis
Conclusion: Evidence supports managing CRS in individuals with CRSwA in a stepwise fashion, starting with traditional non-biologic oral and topical medication, and escalating to second-line treatments, such as ESS and biologics. Optimal treatment of individuals who suffer from CRSwA often requires concurrent, directed management of asthma, as not all CRS interventions impact asthma status. This article is protected by copyright. Sterols and immune mechanisms in asthma
The field of sterol and oxysterol biology in lung disease has recently gained attention, revealing a unique need for sterol uptake and metabolism in the lung. The presence of cholesterol transport, biosynthesis, and sterol/oxysterol-mediated signaling in immune cells suggests a role in immune regulation. In support of this idea, statin drugs that inhibit the cholesterol biosynthesis rate-limiting step enzyme, hydroxymethyl glutaryl coenzyme A  reductase, show immunomodulatory activity in several models of inflammation.

Muscling Through the Data on Statins and Myalgia Muscling Through the Data on Statins and Myalgia
Neurologist Allan Block notes that while some patients taking statins do get muscle cramps, a recent meta-analysis suggested these symptoms were unrelated to the drug in 9 out of 10 cases.MDedge

M020 statin induced drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (dress) syndrome
Statin drugs are widely prescribed in clinical practice. Common side effects experienced by patients include elevated liver enzymes and muscle pain. Severe multisystemic hypersensitivity drug reactions to statins are very uncommon.

Statin-induced DRESS: Seldom Considered
Statin drugs are widely prescribed in clinical practice. Common side effects include elevated liver enzymes and muscle pain [1].   Although rare severe adverse reactions such as diffuse myositis and rhabdomyolysis occur [2], these risks are outweighed by the effectiveness of statin medications in preventing ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Severe multisystemic hypersensitivity drug reactions to statins ar e uncommon [3,4]. Here we describe a recurrent life-threatening hypersensitivity drug reaction consistent with Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms syndrome (i.e., DRESS) manifested b...
