What affects quality of life among caregivers of food-allergic children?
CONCLUSION: Food allergen, having multiple food allergies, age at reaction, income, eczema, parent-reported anaphylaxis, and reaction perception can significantly affect caregiver food allergy QoL. Milk or egg allergy was associated with worse total and domain-specific caregiver QoL scores vs peanut or tree nut allergy, representing a high-risk subgroup. PMID: 24950845 [PubMed - in process]

Electronic Consultations in Allergy/Immunology
ConclusionE-consults were increasingly used, particularly for historical adverse drug reactions and immunodeficiency. Implementation of an e-consult program resulted in decreased in-person wait times despite an increase in overall consult volume, supporting this model’s ability to provide expedited, problem-focused care.

A Proactive Approach to Penicillin Allergy Testing in Hospitalized Patients
Conclusions Penicillin allergy testing using a physician-pharmacist team model effectively removes reported allergies in hospitalized patients. The electronic medical record is a valuable asset for locating and stratifying individuals who benefit most from intervention. Proactive testing substantially reduces unnecessary inpatient and outpatient use of beta-lactam alternatives that may otherwise go unaddressed.
