Subtypes of chronic urticaria in patients attending allergy clinics in Venezuela.
Authors: Sánchez-Borges M, Caballero-Fonseca F, Capriles-Hulett A Abstract Chronic urticaria (CU) is one of the most puzzling clinical entities confronted by the medical profession. It is a common motive for consultation, and in a sizable proportion of patients no identifiable cause is evident. Since there are relatively few publications regarding CU in developing countries, we performed a prospective 3-year study on the demographic and clinical features of patients with CU. Four hundred and twenty-three subjects were studied, 52 children and 371 adults, 295 females (69.7%), with a mean age of 38.4 ± 17.8 years. ...

Central compartment involvement in aspirin ‐exacerbated respiratory disease: the role of allergy and previous sinus surgery
ConclusionMost AERD patients exhibit AR, and this correlates with CC disease. As the number of surgeries increases, MT resection may predispose to polyposis of the septum.

Central compartment atopic disease: prevalence of allergy and asthma compared with other subtypes of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
ConclusionCCAD represents a clinically distinct phenotype of CRSwNP with a high prevalence of allergy and low prevalence of asthma. Patients with both CCAD and diffuse sinonasal polyps had an allergy prevalence approaching that of CCAD and an asthma prevalence approaching CRSwNP NOS.

Sodium Cromoglycate Prevents Exacerbation of IgE-Mediated Food-Allergic Reaction Induced by Aspirin in a Rat Model of Egg Allergy
Conclusion: SCG can prevent ASP-exacerbated allergic reactions in patients with food allergy resulting from inhibition of increases in allergen absorption.Int Arch Allergy Immunol 2015;167:193-202

Elevated total serum IgE in nonatopic patients with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease.
CONCLUSION: In a subset of patients with AERD, we observed elevated total serum IgE even when atopy was not present. To better understand the disease, the cause and clinical relevance of this phenomenon deserves further exploration. PMID: 25197914 [PubMed - in process]

Blood eosinophil-to-basophil ratio in patients with sinonasal polyps: Does it have a clinical role?
CONCLUSION: This study confirms the increasingly interesting role emerging for blood eosinophils and basophils in different CRSwNP endotypes. The bEBR seems to be a parameter worth investigating in different CRSwNP endotypes, because it is significantly higher in patients with allergy, asthma, and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease. Short-term Beneficial Effect of Aspirin in Patient with Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Tolerant to Acetylsalicylic Acid.
Abstract It is well known that desensitization treatment with aspirin can significantly improve symptoms and quality of life in patient with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease. However, its mechanism has not been clearly understood yet. In this case report, 41-year-old male patient was referred to our allergy and immunology department with complaints of chronic rhinosinusitis including postnasal discharge, sneezing, facial pain/pressure, waking up tired, nasal obstruction, smell loss for a long time. According to the patient, the complaints were controlled partially with nasal steroid and antihistamines, and ...

Aspirin hypersensitivity in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis: Frequency and contributing factors.
CONCLUSION: ASA hypersensitivity is common in patients with CRSwNP in Tehran, Iran. Patients at risk for AERD should be evaluated for the presence of ASA hypersensitivity with ASA provocation challenge test to confirm the diagnosis. PMID: 24980235 [PubMed - in process]

Anaphylaxis to diclofenac: nine cases reported to the Allergy Vigilance Network in France
Abstract Nine cases of diclofenac hypersensitivity recorded by the Allergy Vigilance Network in France from 2002 to 2012 were studied. Data from history, symptoms, skin tests, basophil activation tests, and oral challenge (OC) were recorded. Grade 3 severe anaphylactic reactions occurred in seven cases of nine. IgE‐dependent anaphylaxis was confirmed in six cases: positive intradermal tests (n = 4), a syndromic reaction during skin tests (n = 1), and one case with grade 1 reaction and negative skin tests had an anaphylactic shock to the OC. A nonimmune reaction was suspected in one case. An IgE‐dependent mechanism ...

Factors correlated with repeated aspirin dosing during aspirin desensitization.
CONCLUSION: During aspirin desensitization for AERD, approximately 1/3 of our patients require multiple repeat doses. Risk factors for multiple repeated doses include male gender, drop in FEV1, and lower aspirin provoking doses during desensitization. This information can help inform which patients might require multiple re-dosing for desensitization. PMID: 29653235 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
