Impact of histamine-2 antagonist shortage on the incidence of hypersensitivity reactions to paclitaxel: a reconsideration of premedication protocols in France (PACLIREACT Study)
ConclusionWe did not find substantial evidence of an increased risk of HSR due to the absence of H2A in the premedication protocols for paclitaxel. Thus, in contrary to the existing literature on paclitaxel, our findings support the use of a premedication protocol without H2A.

A Skin Patch Shows Promise in Treating Kids ’ Peanut Allergies
WASHINGTON — An experimental skin patch is showing promise to treat toddlers who are highly allergic to peanuts—training their bodies to handle an accidental bite. Peanut allergy is one of the most common and dangerous food allergies. Parents of allergic tots are constantly on guard against exposures that can turn birthday parties and play dates into emergency room visits. There is no cure. The only treatment is for children 4 and older who can consume a special peanut powder to protect against a severe reaction. The patch, named Viaskin, aims to deliver that kind of treatment through the skin instead. In a maj...

Rhinitis phenotypes and multimorbidities in the general population: the CONSTANCES cohort
Conclusions In this large population-based cohort, 40% reported current rhinitis, with a lower prevalence of moderate-to-severe rhinitis than in clinical practice. For the first time in a general adult population, we showed that AR and NAR alone or in combination with asthma or in combination with asthma and conjunctivitis are different phenotypes. These results provide new insights on how best to manage rhinitis and its multimorbidities.

Companies Are Adding Sesame to Foods. It ’ s an Unintended Consequence of a New Allergen Label Law
A new federal law requiring that sesame be listed as an allergen on food labels is having unintended consequences—increasing the number of products with the ingredient. Food industry experts said the requirements are so stringent that many manufacturers, especially bakers, find it simpler and less expensive to add sesame to a product—and to label it—than to try to keep it away from other foods or equipment with sesame. As a result, several companies—including national restaurant chains like Olive Garden, Wendy’s and Chick-fil-A and bread makers that stock grocery shelves and serve schools&mdas...

Maternal diet during pregnancy with allergic and respiratory profiles in children
Conclusion: In a large nationwide cohort, maternal diet quality during pregnancy was weakly related to allergic and respiratory multimorbidity profiles up to 5.5 years. These preliminary results should be further explored by studying more specific food groups or scores.

Influence of asthma on ARIA classification of allergic rhinitis in the French population-based cohort Constances
Conclusion: This is a paradigm changing study as, for the first time we show how taking asthma status into account modify ARIA classification. Moreover, it was done in a large population-based study in adults. This study confirms that rhinitis alone and rhinitis and asthma represent two entirely different phenotypes. This new classification should be used for new guidelines.

Chest CT scan for the screening of air anomalies at risk of pulmonary barotrauma for the initial medical assessment of fitness to dive in a military population
Conclusion: The systematic performance of thoracic CT scan in a young population free of pulmonary pathology revealed a majority of benign nodules. Abnormalities with an aerial component are much less frequent, but their presence generally leads to a decision of unfitness. These results argue in favor of a systematic screening of aeric pleuro-pulmonary lesions during the initial assessment for professional divers.

Is cultured meat a promising consumer alternative? Exploring key factors determining consumer's willingness to try, buy and pay a premium for cultured meat
Appetite. 2022 Sep 8:106307. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2022.106307. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCultured meat is a relatively new product, enjoying consumer appreciation as a more sustainable meat option. The present study builds on a sample from a diverse set of countries and continents, including China, the US, the UK, France, Spain, Netherlands, New Zealand, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic and uses partial least square structural equation modelling. The proposed conceptual model identified key factors driving and inhibiting consumer willingness to try, buy, and pay a price premium for cultured meat. Results relate to th...

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 4984: Towards an Automatic Pollen Detection System in Ambient Air Using Scattering Functions in the Visible Domain
Surcin Pollen grains strongly affect human health by inducing allergies. Although the monitoring of airborne pollens particles is of major importance, the current measurement methods are manually conducted and are expensive, limiting the number of monitoring stations. Thus, there is a need for relatively low-cost instruments that can work automatically. The possible detection of pollen in urban ambient air (Paris, France) has been reported using the LOAC optical aerosol counter. These measurements indicate that the pollen grains and their nature could be determined using their scattering properties. For this purpose, ...

Impact of allergic reactions and urticaria on mental health and quality of life
CONCLUSION: Our results provide evidence for a possible correlation of allergies (e.g. against insect venom, food/food additives, and drugs) and/or urticaria with a reduced QoL and a higher depression rate. Patients particularly indicated restrictions for the dimensions, pain/discomfort as well as anxiety/depression. It might be beneficial to implement a standardized questionnaire as a regular screening method for evaluating the mental health status of patients with allergies and/or urticaria.PMID:35257555 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v50i2.525
