Modulatory role of vitamins A, B3, C, D, and E on skin health, immunity, microbiome, and diseases
Pharmacol Rep. 2023 Sep 6. doi: 10.1007/s43440-023-00520-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisruption of the skin barrier and immunity has been associated with several skin diseases, namely atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis, and acne. Resident and non-resident immune cells and the barrier system of the skin are integral to innate immunity. Recent advances in understanding skin microbiota have opened the scope of further understanding the various communications between these microbiota and skin immune cells. Vitamins, being one of the important micronutrients, have been reported to exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and a...

Bionics investigation of blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the interpretable biomechanics diagnosis of childhood anemia
Acta Biochim Pol. 2023 Sep 6. doi: 10.18388/abp.2020_6676. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVitamin D deficiency (VDD) causes a wide range of health problems, including anemia in infants. If not treated promptly, it may create serious issues for infants with long-term impacts. Therefore, a satisfactory solution to this problem is required. This investigation was to explore the correlation between the blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels and childhood anemia. In this investigation, a cross-sectional examination was performed on 2,942 babies ranging in age from 2 to 36 months and classified into three cohorts: VDD (Vitami...

Comparison of individuals doing sports in indoor and outdoor areas and sedentary individuals in terms of vitamin D, body fat content, and obesity values
CONCLUSIONS: Sport has a positive effect on body mass index and serum cholesterol levels. Outdoor sports have a more positive effect on the vit 25-OH levels and serum lipid profile than indoor sports.PMID:37667916 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33391

Vitamin B12 reference intervals on Beckman, Roche and Siemens analytical platforms
CONCLUSION: As the quality of the reference intervals play a significant role in clinical outcome. It is of great importance that laboratories use method-specific reference interval and if possible locally derived reference intervals until further method standardisation occurs.PMID:37669635 | DOI:10.1177/00045632231202211

Vitamin D status and supplementation before and after Bariatric Surgery: Recommendations based on a systematic review and meta-analysis
Rev Endocr Metab Disord. 2023 Sep 4. doi: 10.1007/s11154-023-09831-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBariatric surgery is associated with a postoperative reduction of 25(OH) vitamin D levels (25(OH)D) and with skeletal complications. Currently, guidelines for 25(OH)D assessment and vitamin D supplementation in bariatric patients, pre- and post-surgery, are still lacking. The aim of this work is to analyse systematically the published experience on 25(OH)D status and vitamin D supplementation, pre- and post-surgery, and to propose, on this basis, recommendations for management. Preoperatively, 18 studies including 2,869 pati...

Efficacy and Tolerability Evaluation of a Nutraceutical Composition Containing Vitex agnus-castus Extract (EVX40 ™), Pyridoxine, and Magnesium in Premenstrual Syndrome: A Real-World, Interventional, Comparative Study
Conclusion The results of the current study conclude that the nutraceutical composition of Vitex agnus-castus extract, vitamin B6, and magnesium is effective in reducing the severity of PMS symptoms and improving the quality of life of PMS subjects. The nutraceutical therapy provided greater relief from PMS symptoms compared to standard therapy alone, and this effect was augmented when the nutraceutical therapy was provided in combination with standard therapies. Similarly, the improvement in quality-of-life parameters was greater in subjects treated with nutraceuticals alone or in combination therapy. Despite the limitati...

Causal association between serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels and cutaneous melanoma: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSION: The findings indicated a potentially causal positive association between serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels and melanoma risk, challenging traditional beliefs about vitamin D's role in melanoma. This emphasizes the need for a balanced and personalized approach to vitamin D supplementation and sun exposure, particularly in high-risk populations. These results should be interpreted with caution due to potential unrecognized pleiotropy and confounding factors. Future research should focus on validating these findings in diverse populations and exploring underlying biological mechanisms.PMID:37664026 | PMC:PMC1047062...

Attenuation of homeostatic sleep response and rest-activity circadian rhythm in vitamin D deficient mice
Chronobiol Int. 2023 Sep 4:1-14. doi: 10.1080/07420528.2023.2253299. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe link between vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and sleep disturbances has long been suggested. However, the direct causality between VDD, sleep disturbances, and circadian rhythm remains unclear. We aimed to characterize sleep-wake behavior and circadian rhythms in an animal model of VDD. VDD was induced by feeding vitamin D-deficient chow, and we analyzed sleep and circadian rhythm parameters. During light period, VDD mice exhibited reduced wake with more frequent wake bouts and increased NREM sleep time. However, during dark p...
