N-methyl-O-benzylhydroxylamine derivatives of sialylated oligosaccharides, their synthesis and separation with reversed-phase HPLC
Carbohydr Res. 2023 Sep 3;533:108939. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2023.108939. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe human milk trisaccharide 3'- sialyllactose was reacted with an excess of N-methyl-O-benzylhydroxylamine (MBHA) and the product 3'- sialyllactose-MBHA was isolated in high (91%) yield by solid-phase extraction. The isomeric trisaccharide 6'-sialyllactose-MBHA was also prepared, in this case by enzymatic sialylation of lactose-MBHA. A 50/50 mixture of the two sialyllactose-MBHA derivatives was easily separated by reversed-phase HPLC. The free oligosaccharides were recovered from their respective MBHA derivatives by acid...

Linker length-dependent morphologies in self-assembled structures of anthracene glucosides
Carbohydr Res. 2023 Aug 31;533:108933. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2023.108933. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAnthracenemethyl glucosides, that possess ethylene glycol linkers connecting the glucoside with anthracene moiety, are studied herein. Koenigs-Knorr glycosylation of ethylene glycol-tethered anthracene with acetobromo glucose, followed by removal of the protecting groups, lead to the facile formation of the target glucosides. Aq. solutions of these anthracene glucosides readily undergo self-assembly, with critical aggregation concentration varying between 0.4 and 1 mM, depending on the linker, being ethylene-, di- and te...

Antiglycation, antifibrillation and antioxidative effects of para coumaric acid and vitamin D; an in-vitro and in-silico comparative-cum-synergistic approach
Biochim Biophys Acta Gen Subj. 2023 Sep 5:130455. doi: 10.1016/j.bbagen.2023.130455. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder that results in impaired utilization of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. Severe hyperglycemia is its principal clinical symptom. Human serum albumin (HSA) is used as a model protein since it is viewed as a sign of glycaemic management because it is more likely to get glycated in diabetic people than other proteins. Para-coumaric acid (pCA), a phenolic acid, and Vitamin D (vit-D) are used as protective agents. In the present work, we deduce a synergistic-cum-compara...

Uterine fluid extracellular vesicles proteome is altered during the oestrous cycle
In this study, shotgun quantitative proteomics-based mass-spectrometry was employed to compare UF-EV proteomes at day 0, 7 and 16 of the oestrous cycle to understand the oestrous cycle dependant dynamics. Furthermore, different phase UF-EVs were supplemented in embryo cultures to evaluate their impact on embryo development. 159 UF-EV proteins were differentially enriched at different time points indicating the UF-EV proteome is cycle dependent. Overall, many identified pathways are important for normal uterine functions, early embryo development and its nutritional needs, such as antioxidant activity, cell morphology and c...

Multi-level assessment of the origin, feeding area and organohalogen contamination on salmon from the Baltic Sea
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2023 Sep 4;264:115424. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2023.115424. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) population in the Baltic Sea consists of wild and hatchery-reared fish that have been released into the sea to support salmon stocks. During feeding migration, salmon migrate to different parts of the Baltic Sea and are exposed to various biotic and abiotic stressors, such as organohalogen compounds (OHCs). The effects of salmon origin (wild or hatchery-reared), feeding area (Baltic Main Basin, Bothnian Sea, and Gulf of Finland), and OHC concentration on the differences in hepati...

Gut microbiota profile and the influence of nutritional status on bacterial distribution in diabetic and healthy Tunisian subjects
Biosci Rep. 2023 Sep 5:BSR20220803. doi: 10.1042/BSR20220803. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGut microbiota plays a key role in the regulation of metabolism and immunity. We investigated the profile of gut microbiota and the impact of dietary intake on gut bacterial distribution in diabetic and healthy Tunisian subjects, aiming to identify a dysbiotic condition, hence opening the way to restore eubiosis and facilitate return to health. In the present research, we enrolled 10 type 1 diabetic (T1D), 10 type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients and 13 healthy (H) subjects. Illumina Miseq technology was used to sequence V3-V4 hypervariabl...

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 2023 Sep 5. doi: 10.1007/s00253-023-12736-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn an attempt to draw a correlation between calcium carbonate (CaCO3) precipitation and biomacromolecules such as extracellular polymeric substances and enzyme activity in biomineralizing microbe, this report aims to elucidate the ureolytic and ammonification route in Paenibacillus alkaliterrae to explore the possible role of organic biomolecule(s) present on cell surface in mediating nucleation and crystallization of biogenic CaCO3. After 168 h of biomineralization in ureolysis and ammonification, 2.2 g/l and 0.87 g/l of ...

Carcinoembryonic antigen, carbohydrate antigen 199 and carbohydrate antigen 724 in gastric cancer and their relationship with clinical prognosis
CONCLUSION: The expression levels of serum tumor markers CEA, CA199 and CA724 in patients with GC are high and rise with the increase of TNM stage. The levels of CEA, CA199 and CA724 are related to age, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and tumor diameter. The combined detection of CEA, CA199 and CA724 is helpful to improve the diagnostic accuracy of GC with high clinical guidance value.PMID:37663935 | PMC:PMC10473936 | DOI:10.4251/wjgo.v15.i8.1475
