" Despicable " GE Spins Off...Minion Healthcare?
I couldn ' t let an occasion as momentous asGeneral Electric spinning off its Healthcare division go without mention. As yet, the new division has no name other than GE Healthcare, which is what it used to be called before being spun. Off, that is. So I guess it ' s up to me to figure this out.We all know that Siemens performed a similar excision of its Healthcare Division back in March of this year, although this was announced back in November, 2017. You may know that Siemens had a sponsoringrelationship with Disney......until October of 2017, and I have to wonder if that had something to do with the unfortunate moniker "...

ConclusionsDocumentation errors are often innate in the EHR software. Improper utilization, insufficient training, or difficulty in integration of the EHR into the clinical office setting results in poor implementation of the electronic version of the clinical record. Solutions that may decrease documentation errors include EHR training, continued financial incentives, and appropriate implementation process and utilization of available software features.

Six Ways Artificial Intelligence Is Impacting Patients
It ’s difficult to open a newspaper nowadays without seeing an article about artificial intelligence. These column-inches spark our imaginations with heady visions of possible futures and crease our brows with concern in equal measure. But one thing you cannot escape is that AI is here now and it’s only going to become more pervasive. While fear of an unknown technology is understandable, in many ways it does a disservice to the incredible impact that AI is already having on the world around us. In the healthcare space alone, it is offering ways to fundamentally rethink clinical practice, speeding up diagnosis, driving ...

Postoperative legal disputes involving patients with cochlear implants.
CONCLUSION: This study showed that it is uncertain whether costs that are not caused directly by the surgery or the postoperative treatment will be remunerated. As each case is in principle unique, the results vary. Nevertheless, taking legal action is recommended after thorough consideration in cases where statutory insurances or other providers refuse to meet expenses incurred. Top 5 Ways Healthcare Applications Slow Down and What To Do About It
The following is a guest blog post by Jeff Garbus and  Alvin Chang from Soaring Eagle Consulting. We spend a lot of our lives tuning applications that people complain are too slow. In no particular order, here are some of our findings. Poor indexing #1 – Unused Indexes, Missing Indexes can cause problems While I’ve said, “in no particular order,” I do have to say this one is usually first. When applications go through Q/A / Stress test, there is often a lot more horsepower than there is data. As a result, the memory and CPU combination mask the otherwise bad performance. Once the application hits production, large...

Reparación Endovascular para Aneurisma de Aorta: Revisión Panorámica sobre su evidencia en el mundo y su aplicación en Latinoamérica
ConclusionsFor abdominal AA, high quality evidence showed no differences inlong-term survival with the use of EVAR compared to conventional surgery, but lower early mortality was observed (OR = 0.33, 95% CI 0.20 −0.55). EVAR was associated with a greater need for re-intervention. In the case of other types of AA, further evidence is still required to establish the benefit of EVAR. The CPGs, consensus, HTAs and coverage policies identified, mostly consider open surgery as the treatment of choice, reserving the EVAR for patients with high surgical risk for conventional surgery in the presence of favorable anatomy.

Decommissioning Legacy EHRs
This article will discuss some of the challenges and options that will influence your cost, legal compliance, and stakeholder satisfaction. Three common mistakes to avoid when moving to a new EHR Hanging on to the legacy EHR Some say: “we will worry about shutting down the old system later after the new EHR is up and going.” Taking that path is risky and expensive. Consider the cost. Until you get all your historical data off the legacy system, you need to pay vendors licensing and support fees. You may infrequently be using the old system, which makes these fees particularly unwarranted.  In addition, you continue...

Rethinking ALS Intercepts and Mutual Aide Agreements
This article focuses on the EMS standard operating procedure (SOP) known as the advanced life support (ALS) intercept.1 In the seven rural Midwest and Mountain West states in which the authors work it’s common for ambulance services to be staffed by volunteers with basic life support (BLS) training. These dedicated first responders have varied levels of NREMT credentialing including: EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, and EMT-Intermediate (EMT-B, AEMT and EMT-I, respectively).2 All EMTs complete coursework in human anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, emergency skills and patient assessment. The more advanced the EMT (e.g., advan...

Conclusion: Results of this study support healthcare providers in providing consultation to patients about the expected next level of cares while considering barriers that may helpful in effective discharge planning, decreasing length of stay and saving resources. These findings also suggest the need for further studies with a stronger methodology on the contribution of patients and families/caregivers to distinguish the predictors of discharge to dedicated rehabilitation facilities.

Podcast: A Bipolar and a Schizophrenic Get Triggered by a Movie
We all realize that movies are fiction, but that doesn’t mean that we should take nothing seriously. When a movie makes a portrayal of an individual, for example, that’s full of racial stereotypes, we’re justified in saying that it isn’t okay.  It’s no different for portrayals of mental illness. In this episode, Gabe and Michelle discuss just such a portrayal in a movie that Michelle found highly offensive. Listen to see if you agree. SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW “This is just another way to dismiss our feelings.” – Gabe Howard   Highlights From ‘Schizophrenia in th...
