Protective effects of exogenous melatonin therapy against oxidative stress to male reproductive tissue caused by anti-cancer chemical and radiation therapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis of animal studies
ConclusionIn male rodents, melatonin therapy was related to improved testicular histopathology, reproductive hormones, testis and body weights, and reduced levels of oxidative markers in testicular tissues of male rodents. Future meticulous studies are recommended to provide a robust scientific backbone for human applications.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42022355293, identifier CRD42022355293.

Effect of Brachytherapy With External Beam Radiation Therapy Versus Brachytherapy Alone for Intermediate-Risk Prostate Cancer: NRG Oncology RTOG 0232 Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSION: Compared with BT, COMBO did not improve FFP for prostate cancer but caused greater toxicity. BT alone can be considered as a standard treatment for men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer.PMID:37315297 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.22.01856

Insight into Tumor Hypoxia: Radionuclide-based Biomarker as Diagnostic Tools
Curr Top Med Chem. 2023 May 15. doi: 10.2174/1568026623666230515154442. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe radiolabeled tracers have been extensively utilized to access various physiological and pathological conditions non-invasively, such as cancers, inflammation, and organ-specific imaging. These tracers demonstrate and study tumor hypoxia in several malignancies. Hypoxia is commonly seen in solid tumors.Tumor Hypoxia is a non-physiological condition of reduced oxygen concentration in the tumor. Hypoxia is associated with adverse outcomes such as treatment resistance and metastases in solid tumors. Tumor hypoxia may resul...

Biochemical outcomes and toxicities in young men with prostate cancer after permanent iodine-125 seed implantation: Prospective cohort study in 6662 patients
CONCLUSIONS: After PI, men <60 years achieved a comparable 5-year biochemical control rate and showed a lower incidence of several toxicities compared to men ≥60 years. This suggests that PI should be an excellent treatment option for men <60 years with prostate cancer.PMID:36599746 | DOI:10.1016/j.brachy.2022.12.001

Coexisting Papillary and Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer: Elucidating the Spectrum of Aggressive Behavior
CONCLUSIONS: Survival of patients with co-PTC/ATC is dependent on the presence of aggressive clinicopathologic features and lies within a spectrum between that of PTC and ATC. Adjuvant RAI and EBRT treatment may be beneficial, even after R0 resection.PMID:36224511 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-022-12553-6

Is iodine-125 seed strand brachytherapy suitable for ureteral carcinoma?
CONCLUSION: UC can be safely and effectively treated by nephrostomy combined with ISS brachytherapy, a viable option for patients who cannot undergo or refuse surgical resection.PMID:36216664 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2022.08.009

Well-Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: Who Should Get Postoperative Radiation?
CONCLUSIONS: Our data show that select patients who received PORT had improved locoregional recurrence-free probability; however, this did not translate into improved DSS and OS. At our institution, we recommend the use of PORT only in highly selected patients with locally advanced primary tumors who are deemed to have a high risk of central neck recurrence for which salvage surgery would result in unacceptable risk to the airway.PMID:35583688 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-022-11898-2

Recurrent Hurthle cell thyroid carcinoma does not preclude long-term survival: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionFollicular and Hurthle cell thyroid carcinoma are known to potentially spread hematogenously to typical sites, such as lung or bones, however; unusual metastatic sites as presented in our case can also be observed. A search of the literature revealed only scattered reports on patients with multiple metastases in unusual locations. Furthermore, the observed long-term survival of our patient is contradictory to the existing data. As demonstrated, recurrent disease may appear years after the initial diagnosis, emphasizing the importance of consistent aftercare. Radioactive iodine therapy, extracorporeal radiation th...

Efficacy and tolerance of salvage curative radiotherapy for patients with cervical relapse of differentiated thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Salvage cervical radiation therapy was associated with a locoregional control of 66.7% at 2years with a reasonable toxicity rate. Carboplatin association with radiation therapy did not improve locoregional control nor overall survival in comparison with radiotherapy alone.PMID:34253422 | DOI:10.1016/j.canrad.2021.06.013
