Effect of tirofiban in treating patients with progressive ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Tirofiban combined with conventional basic treatment can greatly improve neurological deficits and disease outcomes, alleviate platelet adhesion, and reduce platelet activation without increasing the risk of hemorrhage in PIS patients.PMID:35363359 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202203_28357

Role of Surgery in the Management of Brain Arteriovenous Malformations: Prospective Cohort Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Most of the ruptured and unruptured low and middle-grade bAVMs (Spetzler–Ponce A and B) can be surgically treated with a low risk of permanent morbidity and a high likelihood of preventing future hemorrhage. Our results do not apply to Spetzler–Ponce C bAVMs.

Losing And Finding My Mother After Her Stroke
The air outside a hospital feels especially cool and fresh. The natural light, even if it's gray January light is a blessed relief after the fluorescent tunnels I've been guiding my mother along. We had a funny moment of intimacy in the bathroom, trying to get her urine sample in a cup. It isn't easy: crouching, aiming, approximating where in the space below you the stream will collect. Add a daughter trying to micromanage her mother's urine flow and a line of weak-bladdered patients queuing outside, rolling their eyes and tugging at their waistbands and you have all the ingredients of a Mike and Elaine sketch. Sometimes...

Report of cold agglutinins in a patient with acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion: We report here the first case of cerebral infarction probably due to the cold agglutinin disease. The underlying mechanism of cold agglutinins in the pathogenesis of acute ischemic stroke needs to be investigated further.

Primary stroke prevention in Nigerian children with sickle cell disease (SPIN): Challenges of conducting a feasibility trial
ConclusionA hydroxyurea trial (NCT01801423) for children with SCD is feasible in sub‐Saharan Africa; however, extensive training and resources are needed to build a global patient oriented multi‐disciplinary research team with a common purpose. Pediatr Blood Cancer. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Usefulness of stroke volume variation to assess blood volume during blood removal for autologous blood transfusion in pediatric patients
ConclusionStroke volume variation obtained from the FloTrac/VigileoTM monitoring system revealed a strong correlation with EBV during ANH without surgical stimulation. The usefulness of this device as an indicator of cardiac preload under hypovolemic or normovolemic conditions in children during surgery remains to be determined.

Cesarean Hysterectomy in a Parturient With Morbidly Adherent Placenta Complicated by Postoperative Ischemic Stroke Secondary to Vertebral Artery Dissection: A Case Report
We report a case of cesarean hysterectomy in a parturient with morbidly adherent placenta that was complicated by an estimated blood loss of 25 L, with the usage of massive transfusion protocols. On the third postoperative day, symptomatology suggestive of a stroke was elicited. Imaging showed a right vertebral artery dissection with cerebellar, midbrain, and pontine infarcts. She showed gradual recovery in the following months with almost complete return to baseline function. We present this case to highlight vertebral artery dissection as a potential complication after peripartum massive blood transfusion and to consid...
