Clinical improvements in higher brain function and rapid functional recovery in a case of cerebellar hemorrhage treated by neurocognitive rehabilitation.
We report the case of a 34-year-old patient with cerebellar hemorrhage due to arteriovenous malformation causing higher brain dysfunction who was able to return to full-time employment after neurocognitive rehabilitation. Cerebellar stroke caused by nonatherosclerotic diseases or diaschisis may lead to cognitive deficits but these symptoms can be reversed by appropriate therapy. It is important to assess higher brain function in cerebellar stroke patients and to tailor neurocognitive rehabilitation programs appropriately to promote functional recovery. Visual impairment and multimorbidity in a representative sample of the Spanish population
Conclusions: Arthritis, stroke and the co-occurrence of various chronic physical diseases are associated with higher prevalence of visual impairment. Visual impairment is associated with higher prevalence of depression and poorer cognitive function results. There is a need to implement patient-centered care involving special visual assessment in these cases.

Statin therapy improved long-term prognosis in patients with major non-cardiac vascular surgeries: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis demonstrated that statin therapy was associated with improved survival rates and patency rates and with reduced cardiovascular or stroke morbidities in patients who underwent non-cardiac vascular surgeries. PMID: 29953967 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Real-World Comparisons of Cardiovascular Events between Different Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors Among Patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
CONCLUSION: CP-CML patients treated with different TKIs (ponatinib, bosutinib, imatinib, dasatinib, and nilotinib) did not have different incidence of cardiovascular events (MACE, AOEs, VTEs) in this small cohort of real-world patients with ≥6-month of follow-up. The results were consistent among patients with prior use of one and two TKI types.DisclosuresLevy: Takeda (Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.): Consultancy. Xie: STATinMED Research: Employment. Characterizing a Population with Severe Manifestations of Sickle Cell Disease Using U.S. Real-World Evidence
ConclusionsBased on this contemporary real-world evidence from the U.S. setting, a substantial proportion of patients with SCD experience a diverse set of severely debilitating complications of the disease, as well as other co-morbidities associated with the disease. The high rate of comorbidities across all age groups and overrepresentation of patients younger than 30 years of age (relative to age distribution of general U.S. population) indicate that patients with SCD still experience significant morbidity and early mortality with current standard medical care. Given the notable heterogeneity of the clinical manifestatio...

A Systematic Scoping Review of Work Interventions for Hospitalised Adults with an Acquired Neurological Impairment
Conclusion Return to work intervention appears to be an important component of neurological rehabilitation. While studies to date have identified enablers for the integration of work interventions into the inpatient hospital setting, there is limited description of specific components of programs, and a lack of studies evaluating program effectiveness.

An Evaluation of Personal Cooling Systems for Reducing Thermal Strain Whilst Working in Chemical/Biological Protective Clothing
Conclusion: The IV, PCM, and SLIV produced lower heart rate, mean skin, rectal and mean body temperatures in addition to improved work times compared to control. The WS did not improve work times possibly as a result of the cooling capacity of the suit abating, and magnifying thermal insulation. Considering the added time and resources required to implement combination cooling in the form of ice slurry and ice vest (SLIV), there was no significant additive effect for perception, cardiovascular strain, rectal temperature and total trial time relative to the phase change vest or ice vest alone. This may be a product of a &#x...

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 10301: Prevalence of Mental Health Disorders among Elderly Diabetics and Associated Risk Factors in Indonesia
d Aljunid This cross-sectional study aimed to explore mental health disorders (MHD) prevalence among elderly diabetics in Indonesia. Data were extracted from the 2018 national basic health survey in Indonesia (abbreviated as RISKESDAS). The survey involved households randomly selected from 34 provinces, 416 districts, and 98 cities in Indonesia, with 1,017,290 respondents. The number of subjects selected in this study was 2818 elderly diabetic subjects. MHD was determined by self-reporting assessment. Secondary data acquired from RISKESDAS 2018 data involved age, sex, urban–rural residence status, marital status, edu...

Automatic Selection of Control Features for Electroencephalography-Based Brain-Computer Interface Assisted Motor Rehabilitation: The GUIDER Algorithm
Brain Topogr. 2022 Jan 19. doi: 10.1007/s10548-021-00883-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSensorimotor rhythms-based Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) have successfully been employed to address upper limb motor rehabilitation after stroke. In this context, becomes crucial the choice of features that would enable an appropriate electroencephalographic (EEG) sensorimotor activation/engagement underlying the favourable motor recovery. Here, we present a novel feature selection algorithm (GUIDER) designed and implemented to integrate specific requirements related to neurophysiological knowledge and rehabilitative principles. Th...

Cerebrovascular Disease Mortality after occupational Radiation Exposure among the UK National Registry for Radiation Workers Cohort
This study uses data from the UK National Registry for Radiation Workers cohort to assess the association between low-dose exposure to external radiation and cerebrovascular disease (CeVD) mortality. Poisson regression was used to estimate the Excess Relative Risk of CeVD mortality per Sievert (ERR/Sv) of radiation exposure. Estimates were obtained for all CeVD combined, ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke and other/ill-defined CeVD. Results were adjusted for attained age, calendar period, sex, employer, industrial category and employment length. 166,812 nuclear workers (3,665,413 person-years) were included. By the end of...

Sociodemographic, psychiatric and somatic risk factors for suicide: a Swedish national cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: All psychiatric disorders, COPD, cancer, spine disorders, asthma, stroke, diabetes, ischemic heart disease and specific sociodemographic factors were independent risk factors for suicide during 8 years of follow-up. Effective prevention of suicide requires a multifaceted approach in both psychiatric and primary care settings, targeting mental disorders (especially depression), specific somatic disorders and indicators of social support.
